| | CCSMBA NEWS RELEASE 27 September 2015 Inter County Rinks Cornwall's Premier and A Teams competed in the regional qualification competitions for the new English Short Mat Bowling Association Inter County Rinks competition over the weekend. The competition involves 4 rinks of 4 bowlers with the result decided on cumulative score across the four rinks. On Saturday the A Team played at Donyatt Indoor Bowling Club in Somerset. Devon provided the first opposition of the day with Cornwall winning 47 shots to 39. Somerset provided the opposition for the second game and run out 45-37 winners over Cornwall. The final game of the day saw Cornwall against Herefordshire and running out 56-41 winners to secure second place on the day and qualification for the finals at the end of January. Somerset finished unbeaten on the day. Sunday saw the Premier Team also playing at Donyatt but in a group of three. Wiltshire were no match for Cornwall in the first session with Cornwall running out 64-16 winners. Due to only three teams playing Cornwall sat out the second session of play whilst Somerset defeated Wiltshire. Cornwall went into the last game against Somerset knowing that they would qualify whatever the result. Somerset, playing at there new home venue, won 73-29, a margin of 44 that Cornwall will be disappointed with given the 48 shot margin over Wiltshire earlier in the day. Somerset and Cornwall qualify for the finals in January. There is little time for the Premier Team to regroup with the first Inter County match of the season to be played at Carnmoggas on Sunday when Devon will be the visitors. On Saturday the first County Competition of the season will be played at Carnmoggas with the Two Wood Singles played over morning and afternoon sessions.
