| | CCSMBA NEWS RELEASE 20 September 2015 25th Anniversary Match against England Cornwall County Short Mat Bowling Association hosted the England Short Mat Bowls Squad at Carnmoggas over the weekend to mark the 25th Anniversary of the County Association. On Saturday the 37 strong England squad, including 9 players from Cornwall, played 5 sessions of games. With places at the British Isles Championships up for grabs those present were keen to impress team management. Sunday saw the main event of the weekend with Cornwall taking on England over four sessions of play. The first session saw Cornwall score one win with Peter Hore, Neil Gribble, Dennis Shorthouse and Elise Daniell beating Ben Render, Ed Sawbridge, Nicky Bartlett & Peter Fautley 11-8. Cornwall took 5 points in the second session with Percy Tripp, Gerald Fisher, Linda Martin & John Worton drawing 6-6 with Peter Hore, Jake Atrill, Peter Roberts & Peter Fautley. Gillian Cawrse, Martin Boraston & Mark Eddy won 16-10 against Malcolm Follis, Ryan Knight & Elise Daniell. Neil Gribble, Gary Davey, Sandra Worton & Lynne Davey won 8-6 against Steven Holdsworth, Keith Hawkins, Barry Keirle & Dan Winmill, Cornwall won two games in the third session; Peter Hore, Neil Gribble, Dennis Shorthouse and Elise Daniell beating Ben Render, Malcolm Follis, Nicky Bartlett & Oliver Hipkiss 10-3. Karen Watson, Luke Jolly, Ed Dyer and Tom Westlake won 12-7 against Barry Hedges, Jake Atrill, Dave Lamb & Peter Fautley. Cornwall added two points in the final session with Peter Hore beating Karl Hudson 18-12. The final score being Cornwall 13 points England 51 points. The occasion more important that the scoreline Cornwall at times tested the England squad and could have added to the overall points tally. Everyone involved enjoyed a competitive days bowling. The CCSMBA thanks local businesses Pasty Presto, Eden Project, Sharps Brewery, Stevenson of Newlyn, Skinners Brewing Co., St Austell Brewery, Newquay Zoo, Furniss, Prima Bakeries, Newlyn Pharmacy, Lakeview County Club and Carnmoggas for their support. Cornwall are in Inter County Rinks action this weekend with the A Team playing on Saturday against Devon, Somerset & Herefordshire. The Premier Team play on Sunday when Herefordshire, Wiltshire and Somerset provide the opposition. Both days bowling take place at Donyatt IBC near Illminster, Somerset. On Saturday 3 October the first County Competition of the season will be played at Carnmoggas with the Two Wood Pairs played over morning and afternoon sessions. Cornwall's first Inter County Match of the season will be played at Carnmoggas on Sunday 4 October when Devon will be the visitors.
