CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION - News Release 20 January 2018

CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
NEWS RELEASE 20 January 2019

COUNTY & NATIONAL OVER 55 PAIRS
On Sunday the County Over 55 Pairs was played at Carnmoggas with eight pairs competing split into two groups of four with the top team from each group playing the final.

Dennis Shorthouse and Richard Kerr (Landrake) topped Group One with an unbeaten 6 points and +6 shots with Howard McCormack and Mark Payne (Penlee) second on 4 +4.  Mike Dyer and Kevin Williams (Newlyn Trinity) topped Group Two with 6 +10 ahead of Keith Matthews and Max Burden Blisland on 4 +4.

Shorthouse and Kerr won the final against Dyer and Williams 15-7.  McCormack and Payne finished top of the teams chasing a place in the national competition and will represent the county at the finals.

INTER COUNTY RINKS
This coming weekend Cornwall should have been taking a place in the Inter County Rinks final however the the national body the ESMBA announced recently that the venue due to host the finals, Tamworth Indoor Bowling Club, had cancelled the booking and due to difficulties in finding a replacement venue the finals will now be played at Daventry Indoor Bowling Club on the weekend of 6th and 7th April.

The announcement however caught several counties unaware as they had previously been advised that the finals were to be held at Daventry Indoor Bowling Club leaving bowlers facing the possibility of being left out of pocket for accommodation expenses.  The new date clashes with the Short Mat Players Tour season finale World Masters in Belfast.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
The ESMBA have confirmed arrangements for the knockout stages of the Inter County Championship.  Both Cornwall's Premier & A Teams will play preliminary round matches on Saturday 9th February at Bristol Indoor Bowling Club.  The Premier Team will play Avon and the A Team face Hertfordshire.
