CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
NEWS RELEASE 18 NOVEMBER 2018

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday the final round of South West group games in the English Short Mat Bowling Association (ESMBA) Inter County Championship will be played.  Cornwall travel to ISCA Indoor Bowling Club in Exeter to face Devon and Dorset host Somerset at the Dorset Bowls Resort near Bere Regis.

In the Premier Team competition Dorset are the clear leaders with 126 points and a +216 shot difference.  Cornwall are second on 96 and +1, Devon third with 93 and -92 and Somerset fourth on 85 and -125.  With Dorset needing just 10 points to mathematically guarantee top spot there are several permutations for the second qualification spot for the Knockout competition.  Cornwall need a minimum of 19 points to ensure they finish ahead of Devon, anything less will see Devon overtake Cornwall.  If Cornwall reach 19 points Somerset would then need at least 31 points if they are qualify.

The A Team competition can see anyone of three counties take the top spot.  Somerset lead with 113 and +34, Cornwall second with 109 and +103, Dorset third with 106 and +53 and Devon fourth with 72 and -190.  A win for Cornwall will guarantee progression to the knockouts the result between Dorset and Somerset determining who will take the second place.  Somerset need 17 points from the match and Dorset 24.  It looks likely that the top three could be split by a very small margin.

It is hoped to bring regular updates from the Devon v Cornwall matches via Facebook & Twitter throughout the day on Sunday.

INTER AREA LEAGUE
On Sunday the second round of Inter Area Matches were played at Carnmoggas.  Central dominated against East winning 34 points to 6 and 208 shots to 128.  West won 21 points to 19 and 185-178 shots against North.  Central are in control after two games with 64 points, West are second with 36, East third with 31 and North fourth with 29.
The final round of fixtures are due to be played on February 3rd at Carnmoggas when Central play West and East play North.
