INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday the County A Team play in the Preliminary Round of the Inter County Knockout Competition when they face North Yorkshire at Solihull Indoor Bowling Club in the Midlands.

The team selected for the fixture is 

Chris Roberts, Ronnie Thomas, Ray Jeffery, Keith Williams, Betty Temple-Smith, Max Burden, Lynne Davey, Alan Holden, Gary Davey, Graham Ford, John Dodd, Tony Baldwin, Graham Reeves, Brenda Sleep,  Anthony Jago, Ken Horrell, Henry Kendall, Mike Webster, Sandra Worton, Keith Matthews.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
Seven local bowlers travel to Bromsgrove this weekend to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour English Masters.

Making his first appearance in an SMPT event Chris Selby faces England's Wendy Ford, Chris Page, William Nicholls & Daniel Winmill along with Ireland's Ryan Abraham in Group Two.  Also making his debut David Studden faces England's Alex Kley, Ian Ford, Sue Young, Belguim's Paula Geens & Ireland's Alistair Mahaffy in Group 5.

Nigel Nicholls faces England's Malcolm Sheen, John Jillings & Mark Hollis together with Denmark's Benk Nielsen & Ireland's Joseph Beattie in Group 13.  Peter Hore and Tom Westlake are drawn together in Group 18 along with England's Karl Hudson & Steve Killington, Ireland's Sam Moore & Norway's Lars-Rune Lauritzen.  

Nicholas Truscott has new World Number 1 Dimitri Payne of Belguim in his group along with England's Eric Pavey, Wales's Richard Arran and Richard Palmer and Ireland's Vincent Dornan in Group 20.

Elise Daniell lines up in Group 22 alongside England's Ben Pay & Benny Bass, Sweden's Bente Dahlgren & Jorgen Karlsson and Wales' Craig Evans.

NEWS RELEASE 22 January 2017

ESMBA OPEN SINGLES
On Saturday seven local bowlers competed in the ESMBA Open Singles in Tamworth.

Six came through the group stages and into the main knockout.  David Studden came through Group Two in 2nd place with 3 points +3 shots.  Elise Daniell qualified 2nd from Group Eight with 3 +/-0.  Karen Watson topped Group Nine with 4 +2 after beating Tom Westlake in the final group game leaving Westlake also through in 2nd place on 3 +1.  Nigel Nicholls topped Group Fourteen with 6 +24.  Luke Jolly finished 2nd in Group Fifteen with 4 -6.  Peter Hore was the bowler to miss out after scoring 2 -5 in Group Four finishing 3rd.

In the Last 32 Jolly defeated Ricky Pyle 15-7.  Westlake won 8-5 against Glen Harvey.  Watson & Daniell were drawn to play each other with Watson prevailing 14-5.  Studden won 10-7 against Ryan Fox.  Nicholls lost 3-11 to Bronagh Toleman.

The Last 16 saw three wins for Cornwall's bowlers with Watson defeating Alex Kley 9-2, Jolly winning 9-5 against Vincent Dorman and Westlake edging out Peter Roberts 10-9.  Studden lost 3-13 to John Pitcher.  The three remaining local bowlers bowed out of the competition at the Quarter Final stage.  Watson losing 4-12 to Adam Smith, Jolly 3-11 to eventual winner Kevin Siddle and Westlake narrowly missing out to Anthony Fautley 10-11.

ESMBA OPEN TRIPLES

On Sunday three local teams competed in the ESMBA Triples again at Tamworth.

Nigel Nicholls, Gillian Cawrse & James Smith came through Group Three in 2nd place with 3 points +5 shots.  Peter Hore, Elise Daniell & David Studden topped Group Five with 6 +21.  Karen Watson, Tom Westlake & Karen Watson topped Group Eight with 5 +13.

Having all progressed through to the Last 16 Nicholls lost to Anthony Fautley's triple 4-8.  Hore lost by the narrowest of margins 9-10 to Kevin Siddle's Triple.  Watson won 8-6 against Chris Terry's Triple.  In the Quarter Finals Watson defeated John Pitcher's team 14-8 before losing in the Semi Finals to Michael Tandy's team 3-10.
 
INTER AREA LEAGUE
On Sunday the final round of Inter Area League matches was played at Carnmoggas.  North won 25-15 against East and Central won 25-15 against West.  The final positions Central 83 points, West 63, North 54, East 40.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday 5th February the County A Team play in the Preliminary Round of the Inter County Knockout Competition when they face North Yorkshire in the Midlands at Solihull Indoor Bowling Club.

COUNTY FOUR WOOD PAIRS
Over the weekend the qualification of the County Four Wood Pairs was contested at Carnmoggas with 21 pairs playing on Saturday and 22 on Sunday with five group winners and three best runners up going through to a single knockout round each day.

On Saturday Richard & Heidi Kerr (Landrake) topped Group One with an unbeaten 6 points +15 shots,  second placed Mike Webster & David Topliffe (Blisland) also qualified for the knockout round with 4 -3.  Group Two saw Neil Gribble (Landrake) and Gillian Cawrse (Lostwithiel) dominant with an unbeaten 6 +28, second placed Roy Sumner (Marazion) & Howard McCormack (Penlee) missed the cut with 4 -9.  In Group Three Bill Sharp & Robert Rawlings (Dobwalls) topped the group also unbeaten 6 +15, closest rivals and failing to make the cut were Graham Luke & Richard Brown (Ladock) with 2 -2.  Group Four was topped by David Balow & David Foulds (Marazion) with 4 +17.  Peter Skinner & Graham Reeves (Saltash) qualified for the knockout round with 4 +13.  Mike & Gillian Styles (Redruth) topped Group Five with 5 +7.  Tony Baldwin & Alan Jones (Callington) took a large win over John Nixon (Saltash) & Dianne Shorthouse (Landrake) to take second and a knockout spot on 4 +13.

In the knockout round Baldwin & Jones defeated the Kerr's 13-11.  Skinner & Reeves met Balow & Foulds for a second time on the day winning 9-4.  Sharp & Rawlings were 9-5 winners against Webster & Topliffe.  Gribble & Cawrse brushed aside the Styles' 17-1.  

On Sunday Peter Hore & Elise Daniell (Holmans) topped Group One with an unbeaten 6 +22, Keith Matthews & Max Burden (Blisland) took one of the runners-up spots with 4 +19.  Chris Harris & Terry Trevorrow (Hayle) topped Group Two with 5 +4 ahead of Sheila Hodge (Liskeard) & Mike Scott (East Taphouse) on 3 -14 which was not enough to qualify for the knockout round.  In Group Three John & Sandra Worton (Ladock) qualified as group winners with 4 +21 ahead of Gary Davey (Landrake) & Martin Boraston (Landrake) on 4 +14, enough to see the through to the knockout round.  Tom Westlake & Luke Jolly (Treviscoe) recorded the weekend's best score with 6 +31 to top Group Four.  Karen Watson (Saltash) & Kath Goodman (Treviscoe) missed out on qualification finishing on 4 +8.  The final group winners were Alan Holden & Des Pengelly (Landrake) who were unbeaten on 6 +12 to finish ahead of Carol & Graham Ford (Ladock) who qualified with a score of 4 +!2.

In the knockout round the Ford's won 18-3 against Harris & Trevorrow.  Hore & Daniell met Matthews & Burden for a second time on the day running out 6-5 winners.  Westlake & Jolly defeated the Worton's 13-4 and Davey & Boraston won 13-8 against Holden & Pengelly.

The eight qualifiers will play the finals on Saturday 11 March at Carnmoggas.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
The final group matches in Cornwall's groups were played on Sunday when Devon hosted Somerset at ISCA in Exeter.

Devon lost both the Premier and A Team fixtures by 10-30 and 11-29 respectively.  Devon top the Premier table on shot difference from Cornwall.  Somerset overhauled Cornwall for top spot in the A Team table by two points.

Cornwall's Premier Team face Gloucestershire in the quarter finals of the knockout competition scheduled for the weekend of 18th/19th February.  The A Team will meet North Yorkshire in the preliminary round of the knockout competition scheduled for the weekend of 4th/5th February.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
Over the weekend three local bowlers made the trip to Sweden to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour Swedish Masters at the Nordby Supermarket Halen in Stromstad.

Peter Hore came through his group unbeaten with wins against Dick Almen (SWE) 10-8, Odd Egil Hansen (NOR) 19-4, Lars-Rune Lauritzen (NOR) 17-5 and Stephen Proctor (ENG) 11-10.  

In the Cup knockout Peter met Gunnar Frantzen (NOR) in the last 32 winning 8-7 before losing in the last 16 to Paul Seaman (ENG) 4-13.  Peter climbs 10 places in the Players Tour World Rankings to 87th with 276 points.  In the Order of Merit standings Peter climbs 68 places to 27th with 187 points.

Nigel Nicholls won his first three group games, 15-8 against Mark Courtney (ENG), 19-8 against Mio Kontic (ENG) and 18-7 against Bengt Goran Clemensson (SWE).  Defeats to Paul Baller (ENG) 5-14 and Steve Puttock (ENG) 10-14 left Nigel third in his group and into the Plate Knockout.

In the last 32 Nigel defeated Ann-Katrin Kristiansen (NOR) 20-1.  In the last 16 Jonas Hager (SWE) was defeated 13-9.  An 11-9 win against Nigel Reed (ENG) followed in the Quarter Finals.  Christer Almen (SWE) was defeated 14-8 in the Semi Final.  The final against Christer Nordin (SWE) went to a tie break after the game finished 11-11 at the end of the scheduled 12 ends.  Nordin won the tie break 2-1.   Nigel climbs 5 places in the Players Tour World Rankings to 50th with 404 points.  In the Order of Merit standings Nigel drops 1 place to 21st with 240 points.

Elise Daniell fared less well in the group stages failing to win a game Gunnar Frantzen (NOR) 6-12, Lillian Gjermo (SWE) 6-14, Alex Kley (ENG) 2-22, Roald Midteide (NOR) 11-13 and Dominic Reed (ENG) 8-10.

In the Shield knockout Elise won her last 32 game against Odd Egil Hansen (NOR) 12-7 before a defeat in the Last 16 to Ed Sawbridge (ENG) 5-14.  Elise drops 6 places in the Players Tour World Rankings to 154th with 173 points.  In the Order of Merit standings Elise drops 20 points to 145th with 53 points. 

Short Mat Players Tour action returns to England in just over two weeks when the English Masters will be contested at Bromsgrove Indoor Bowling club with a number of local bowlers entered.
