CCSMBA NEWS RELEASE 4 October 2015 Inter County Championship On Sunday Cornwall's Inter County Championship campaign started with a home fixture against Devon at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club. The Premier Team got off to the worst possible start losing all four mats in the morning Singles and Pairs. Cornwall rallied in the second session winning both Triples, Mark Eddy, Martin Boraston & Gillian Cawrse 12-8 and Tom Westlake, Kevin Williams & Karen Watson 16-8 and one of the Fours, Dennis Shorthouse, Nicholas Truscott, Neil Gribble and Peter Hore 13-5. Devon secured the match victory in the third session, the afternoon Singles and Pairs taking 11 of the 12 points on offer. Ed Dyer taking a point for Cornwall with a 12-12 draw in the Singles. The final session saw Cornwall win both Fours and Devon both Triples. Peter Hore skipped his rink to a second win on the day 12-5 and Richard Kerr, Linda Martin, Gerald Fisher & Percy Tripp won 10-7. The final match score for the Premier Team Cornwall 11 points 167 shots Devon 29 points 221 shots. Singles: Nigel Nicholls 9-16 & 14-15, Ed Dyer 6-20 & 12-12 Pairs: David Studden & John Worton 7-20 & 12-16, Luke Jolly & Elise Daniell 9-10 & 11-16 Triples: Gillian Cawrse, Martin Boraston & Mark Eddy 12-8 7 12-20, Karen Watson, Kevin Williams & Tom Westlake 16-8 & 6-18 Fours: Peter Hore, Neil Gribble, Nicholas Truscott & Dennis Shorthouse 13-5 & 12-5, Percy Tripp, Gerald Fisher, Linda Martin, Richard Kerr 6-25 & 10-7 The A Team were dominant in the first session winning all four mats. In the Singles Chris Roberts 16-7 and Alan Holden 15-13. In the Pairs Richard Brown & Graham Ford 19-6 and Betty Temple-Smith & Max Burden 12-6. Devon hit back in the second session winning three of the four mats, Cornwall's win coming in the Fours with Ruth Newbury, Bill Sharp, Brenda Sleep & Keith Matthews 11-6. In the afternoon session Cornwall's Singles players completed a clean sweep with 23-7 and 13-11 wins respectively. In the Pairs Temple-Smith & Burden completed a double with a 20-9 win. Cornwall went into the final session needing a single point for the match win. In the final session Cornwall's Fours both games, Keith Matthews 17-6 and Kath Goodman, Keith Williams, Sandra Worton, Derek Newton 14-9. The final match score for the A Team Cornwall 26 points 210 shots Devon 14 points 172 shots. Singles: Chris Roberts 16-7 & 23-7, Alan Holden 15-13 & 13-11 Pairs: Graham Ford & Richard Brown 19-6 & 9-24, Max Burden & Betty Temple-Smith 12-6 & 20-9 Triples: Ken Horrell, Graham Luke & Meg Horrell 6-21 & 10-14, Gary Davey, Graham Reeves & Lynne Davey 9-15 & 9-10 Fours: Keith Matthews, Brenda Sleep, Bill Sharp & Ruth Newbury 11-6 & 17-6, Derek Newton, Sandra Worton, Keith Williams & Kath Goodman 7-8 & 14-9 County Two Wood Singles On Saturday the County Two Wood Singles qualification competition was played over two sessions at Carnmoggas with a round robin stage followed by a single knock out round. The qualifiers from the morning session were Richard Kerr (landrake) who defeated William James (Marazion) 12-10. Karen Watson (Saltash) won 13-10 against Martin Boraston (East Taphouse). Brenda Sleep (Dobwalls) won 12-6 against Alan Holden and Chris Fry (Treviscoe) defeated John Worton (Ladock) 12-8. The afternoon session qualifiers were Peter Hore (Holman) with a 13-5 win over Peter Skinner (Saltash). Ed Dyer (Landrake) defeated Roy Sumner (Marazion) 10-8 having lost to him in the group stages. Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) won 13-6 against Howard McCormack (Penlee). Neil Gribble (Landrake) won 12-7 against Keith Matthews (Blisland). The finals were originally scheduled for Saturday 5 March the a new date has to be confirmed after the ESMBA announced that that date would now be used for the ICC Rinks finals which Cornwall have qualified for. With Cornwall's England Squad members away this coming weekend the first round of Inter Area League matches will be played at Carnmoggas on Sunday with North meeting Central and East against West.
