County Two Wood Singles
On Saturday 28 bowlers, drawn across two sessions of play, competed for a place in the finals on Saturday 18th February.

The morning session saw 12 bowlers drawn in four groups for three.  The group winners, qualifying for the finals were Simon Lees (Newlyn Trinity) 4 points +18 shots, Richard Kerr (Landrake) 2 +4, Graham Reeves (Landrake) 4 +9 and Percy Tripp (Newly Trinity) 4 +13.

16 bowlers were drawn into four groups of four for the afternoon session.  The group winners were D Studden (Holmans) 6 +28, K Williams (Porthleven) 6 +31, D Balow (Marazion) 5 +10 and Martin Boraston (Duloe) 6 +21.

County Four Wood Pairs
On Sunday 54 bowlers competed for places in the finals on Saturday 18th February.  The 27 pairs were drawn across six groups with the group winners and top two runners up qualifying for the finals.

Group One was topped by Tony Jago (Withiel) & Steve Smith (St Newlyn East) with 6 points +25 shots,  Graham Reeves & Neil Gribble (Landrake) took one of the runners up spots with 4 +20.  Group Two was won by Bryan Lewis & Martin Boraston (Duloe) with 6 +18.  Elise Daniell & Peter Hore (Holmans) took the other runners up spot with 4 +29.  

Group Three winners were Richard Clark & Brenda Sleep (Dobwalls) on 6 +28, Group Four was topped by Austen Runnalls & Steve Williamson (Luxulyan) with 6 +27.  Nigel Nicholls & Ray Jeffery (Newlyn Trinity) took Group Five with 6 +34 and Mark Payne & Nigel Taylor (Penzance) rounded off the qualifiers with 6 +15 in Group Six.

Inter County Championship
Cornwall's A Team will play in the main competition of the knockout stages of this year's Inter County Championship.  The three group winners are to be joined by one second placed team in the semi finals in March.  Cornwall will play Kent at Bristol Indoor Bowling Club on Sunday 12th February with the winner meeting Shropshire the following weekend at Solihull Indoor Bowling Club.  The winner of that match will then join Devon, Hampshire and Norfolk in the semi finals.

Short Mat Players Tour
Over the weekend on the 11th & 12th February the Short Mat Players Tour English Masters will see 192 bowlers compete at the Falcon Bowls and Social Club, Chelmsford.  A full preview will be provided in next week's release.

Inter County Championship
The Cornwall Premier Team's final group match of the season against Hampshire on Sunday was cancelled earlier in the week when Hampshire advised that they would be unable to raise a team to fulfil the fixture.  Cornwall finish third in Group One of the Premier One section of the competition and will have no further matches in this year's competition.

The A Team finished second in their group after Devon won 28 -12 at home to Dorset in the final match of the group played on Sunday.  Devon finished top of the group with 93 points, Cornwall second with 75 and Dorset third with 72.  The CCSMBA awaits confirmation of arrangements for matches in the knockout competition.  

County Triples
On Saturday 21 teams competed in the County Triples at Carnmoggas with eight teams qualifying for the finals on Sunday 12th March.

The teams were split into five groups with the group winners and three best second place teams qualifying,

Group One was topped by Neil Gribble, Dennis Shorthouse and Richard Kerr (Landrake) with 6 points +30 shots.  Group Two winners were John Worth, Brenda Sleep & Richard Clark (Dobwalls) with 6 +24.  Group Three was topped by Keith Whatley, Malcolm Daniels (Penlee) & Frederick Spurr (Marazion) with 4 +12.  Group Four was topped by Nigel Nicholls, Ray Jeffery & Percy Tripp (Newlyn Trinity) with 4 +9.  Group Five winners were Steve Smith, John Worton & Sandra Worton (St Newlyn East) with 6 +18.

The three best runners up were Mike Day, Steve Ball & Lorraine Ball (Saltash) in Group One with 4 +13.  Ken Horrell, Meg Horrell & Tony Jago (Withiel) in Group Three with 4 +9 and Alan Trubshaw, Caroline Trubshaw & Martin Boraston (Duloe) in Group Four with 4 +7.  The two teams to miss out were Des Pengelly, Martyn Featherstone & Dot Nunn (Saltash Kernow) in Group Two and John Read, Mark Slack & Leonard Lee in Group Five, both teams finishing on 4 +6.

County Two Wood Singles
On Saturday 28th January 35 bowlers are entered to play across two sessions at Carnmoggas, competing for the 8 places on offer in the finals on Saturday 18th February.

County Four Wood Pairs
On Sunday 29th January 64 bowlers are entered in to play in the rearranged County Four Wood Pairs at Carnmoggas, competing for the 8 places in the finals on Saturday 18th February.

The Inter Area League competition was concluded on Sunday at Carnmoggas.

After the first two rounds played earlier in the season West held a 4 point lead over Central with East and North a further 12 points adrift.

The new format for the competition this year sees the areas play each other on each of the three match days with a possible 24 points available.

Sunday's first session of play saw North draw 4-4 with Central and East draw 4-4 with West.  The second session saw North take a 5-3 advantage over West and East take a 6-2 scoreline against Central.  

With one session left to play West led overall with 40 points, Central second on 35 points, East third on 27 and North fourth on 26.  In the final session East took a clean sweep of 8 points against North and Central won 6-2 against West which was enough for West to claim the Inter Area League title by one point.  The final scores on the day, East 18 points +8 shots, Central 12 points -9 shots, West 9 points +21 shots, North 9 points -20 shots.

The final scores overall West 42 points, Central 41 points, East 35 points, North 26 points.

County Triples
On Saturday 21st January, 23 teams will compete in the County Triples to be played at Carnmoggas with 8 places in the finals up for grabs.

Inter County Championship
On Sunday 22nd January Cornwall's Premier Team will host Hampshire at Carnmoggas in the final group match of the 2022/23 season.  Cornwall lie 1 point ahead of their opponents and will be looking for a minimum of 20 out of the 40 points available to avoid a possible relegation match against the bottom team in group two of the Premier One section of the ESMBA Inter County Championship.

Short Mat Players Tour
Four bowlers from Cornwall travelled to York over the weekend to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour British Open at the York & District Indoor Bowling Club.

Nigel Nicholls, Elise Daniell and Peter Hore all progressed from the group stages into the Cup competition but all three failed to progress beyond the first round of the knockout stages.

Nigel Nicholls finished 2nd in Group 21.  Starting with a defeat to group winner James Rutledge (IRE) 3-13 , Nigel recorded four wins in the remaining group games against Simon Kamar (SCO) 22-2, Roger Green (ENG) 15-9, Robert Mumford (ENG) 23-1 and Steve Puttock (ENG) 13-12.  In the first round of the knockout competition Nigel lost to Andrew Jones (WAL) 13-3.  In the world rankings Nigel has moved up one place to 9th with 709.5 points.  In the current seasons Order of Merit standings Nigel lies in 7th place with 355.5 points and occupies the third out of four places 

Elise Daniell finished 2nd in Group 25.  After a loss to Simon Pridham (CYP) 6-14 Elise won her three remaining group games against Rodney Knight (ENG) 21-3, Keith Lackford (ENG) 13-11 and Darren Brown (ENG) 13-6.  In the first round of the knockout competition Elise lost to finalist James John-Davies (WAL) 5-14.  Elise has dropped 4 places in the rankings to 40th with 417.25 points. Elise moves up 88 places in the Order of Merit to 58th with 157.75 points.

Peter Hore topped Group 29 with an unbeaten 15 points after recording wins against Maria Vandermaesen (BEL) 19-3, Annabelle Almond (ENG) 14-8, Marc Miskimming (SCO) 13-8, Pauline White (ENG) 17-6 and Sue Lawley (SCO) 12-6.  In the first round of the knockout competition Peter lost to Aaron Clare (ENG) 15-8.  Peter has moved up 4 places in the rankings to 33rd with 444.25 points. Peter moves up 90 places in the Order of Merit to 57th with 160.75 points.

Martyn Featherstone finished 4th in Group 27 and progressed through to the Plate Competition.  Martyn's competition started with a defeat to Bob Naylor (SCO) 6-10  A 21-5 win against Luisa Greenhalgh (POR) followed before a heavy 1-20 defeat to eventual winner Gary McNabb (NIR).  A win then followed against Peter Collins (ENG) 14-13 before rounding off the group games with a 6-16 defeat to Martin Simcock (ENG).  In the first round of the Plate competition Martyn lost to the eventual winner Lee Toleman (ENG) 5-16.  With fewer competition appearances Martyn sits in 309th place in the rankings with 68 points.  Martyn is 253rd in the Order of Merit with 36 points.

The next Short Mat Players Tour competition is the English Masters in Chelmsford over the weekend of the 11th and 12th February.

Inter Area League
This Sunday will see the final round of Inter Area League matches played at Carnmoggas.  West currently lead with 33 points +55 shots, Central have 29 +52, North 17 -47 and East 17 -60.  A maximum of 24 points is available to any area across the course of the day's play when the areas will all play each other.

County Triples
