CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
NEWS RELEASE - 15th December 2019

COUNTY SINGLES
The last competition before Christmas took place at Carnmoggas last weekend with 47 bowlers competing of the two days with 4 players from each day qualifying for the finals in January.

On Saturday 22 bowlers took part split into 5 groups with the group winners and three best runners up going through to a single knockout round.

David Topliffe (Boscastle) topped Group One on 6 points +35 shots ahead of Joyce Harding (Luxulyan) on 4 -10.  Martin Boraston (Duloe) finished top of Group Two on 4 +15 with Fran Phillips (Helston) second on 4 +10.  In Group Three Callum Beale (Withiel) topped the group on 4 +26 with Percy Tripp (Newlyn Trinity) second on 4 +6.  Dennis Shorthouse (Landrake) topped Group Four with 4 +23 ahead of Austen Runnells (Luxulyan) on 4 +4.  In the final group, Group Five Karen Watson (Saltash) topped the group on 6 +23 ahead of Neil Gribble (Landrake) on 4 +7.

In the knockout round Beale defeated Topliffe 12-4.  Boraston again met Phillips winning 11-5 reversing the earlier group game defeat.  Tripp was a 12-9 winner against Watson and in the final game Shorthouse defeated Gribble 13-7.

On Sunday 25 bowlers were split into 6 groups with group winners and two best runners up going through to a single knockout round.

Peter Hore (Holmans) topped Group One on 5 +23 ahead of David Balow (Marazion) on 5 +5.  Geoff Risdon (Lanteglos) finished top of Group Two on 6 +26 with Mike Webster (Blisland) second on 4 +10.  In Group Three Sandra Worton (St Newlyn East) topped the group with 6 +11 with Alan Holden second on 3 -3.  Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) topped Group Four with 4 +18 ahead of Carole Dodd (St Newlyn East) on 3 +1.  Group Five saw Richard Kerr (Landrake) finish top on 4 +15 ahead of John Worton (St Newlyn East) on 4 +13.  The final group saw Kevin Williams (Newlth Trinity) finish on top ahead on Martyn Featherstone (Saltash Kernow) on 3 - 3.

In the knockout round John Worton defeated Sandra Worton 11-4.  Balow won 10-5 against Kerr.  Nicholls was a 9-8 winner against Risdon and in the final game Williams defeated Hore 9-4.

The eight qualifiers will return to Carnmoggas on January 18th for the finals.

COUNTY SINGLES
The last competition before Christmas takes place this weekend with the County Singles at Carnmoggas.  63 bowlers are entered with 32 drawn to play on Saturday and 31 on Sunday with 4 players from each day to qualify for the finals in January.

COUNTY LEAGUES
The county league program is reaching the halfway point, with a few matches remaining before the break a full round up will follow next week.

INTER AREA LEAGUE
On Sunday the second round of Inter Area League matches were played at Carnmoggas.  Central won by 22 points to 18 and 180 shots to 176 against East.  West dominated against North recording a 32 points to 8 and 214 shots to 140 win.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
Over the weekend a group of players made the trip to Chelmsford to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour World Fours Masters on Saturday and Pairs Masters on Sunday.

On Saturday Elise Daniell, Peter Hore (Holmans), Gill Smith and Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) won one and lost one in the group stages before losing 7-10 to Craig Burgess, James Trott, Simon Pridham & Mike Ivings.

Withiel's Callum Beale teamed up with bowlers from other counties and they topped Group Four with maximum points.  They went on to record a 14-1 win in the first round of the knockouts before going out in the Last 16 round to Burgess, Trott, Pridham & Ivings by a score of 6-7.

On Sunday Elise and Nigel paired up and topped Group Three and received a bye into the last 32 round where they defeated N Froud & D Hacker 11-4.  The last 16 round brought another win against N Reed & D Sifford 9-4.  There run ended in the Quarter Finals losing to Mark Beattie & Gary Moore 8-7.

Callum paired with Northamptonshire's Ed Sawbridge to top Group 26.  In the last 64 round they defeated B & B Whitburn 14-2.  In the last 32 round they defeated J Trott & M Ivings 11-4 before losing to G McNabb & W Boggs 115 in the Last 16 round which can be replayed on this link (https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FShortMatPlayersTour%2Fvideos%2F443127506398159%2F&show_text=0&width=560)  

Peter & Gill won their first two games in Group Twenty Seven but defeat in the third game left them second in the group.  In the first round of the knockout they lost 10-4 to Froud & Hacker.

The next Player Tour event is the British Open Singles over the weekend of 11th & 12th January in York.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Cornwall's Premier Team will go into the final south west group match against Devon at ISCA on Sunday 12th January knowing that they will need to win the match to qualify for the knockout stages of the Inter County Championship after Devon moved a point ahead of Cornwall in Sunday's match against Somerset which Somerset won 24-16.  The Premier Team positions are now Dorset 122, Devon 97, Cornwall 96, Somerset 85.  

In the A Team fixture Devon defeated Somerset 22-18 to leave the points standings as Dorset 129, Devon 108, Somerset 94, Cornwall 69.

FORTHCOMING FIXTURES

Bowlers have a week off this weekend following Cornwall's withdrawal from the Inter County Rinks competition.  The last competition before Christmas takes place on the 14th & 15th December with the County Singles at Carnmoggas.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday Cornwall travelled to the Dorset Bowls Resort for the latest round of ESMBA Inter County Championship matches.  The Premier Team started the match well taking three wins in the first session.  Nigel Nicholls winning 19-8 in the Singles and in the Pairs Elise Daniell & Callum Beale and John Worton & David Studden winning 16-10 and 15-12 respectively.   Cornwall then failed to score in the morning Triples and Fours to trail 10 points to 6 after the morning sessions.

The afternoon Singles and Pairs saw Cornwall win on two mats, Nicholls 18-10 in the Singles and Worton & Studden 16-14 in the Pairs helping to secure the Pairs bonus points.  The match score after three sessions Dorset 16 points Cornwall 12 points.  Cornwall scored a further 2 points in the final session with a win for Sandra Worton, Percy Tripp & Kevin Williams in the Triples 16-12.  The final match score Dorset 26 points 211 shots Cornwall 14 points 182 shots.

The A Team shared the first session with wins for both Singles, Alan Trubshaw and Mark Payne 14-10 and 17-15 respectively.  Like the Premier Team, Cornwall's A Team failed to score a point in the second session to trail 12 points to 4 at the half way point in the match.

The afternoon Singles and Pairs session saw Cornwall win on one of the four mats, Glynn Roy & Gill Smith winning 16-10 in the Pairs.  The final session brought a couple of wins for Cornwall.  In the Triples Lynne Smith, Austen Runnalls & Graham Ford 15-10 and in the Fours Meg Horrell, Dianne Shorthouse, Brenda Sleep & Ken Horrell 17-8.  The final match score Dorset 30 points 225 shots Cornwall 10 points 163 shots.

Over the weekend a group of players will compete in the Short Mat Players Tours World Fours on Saturday and World Pairs on Sunday at the Falcon Indoor Bowls club in Chelmsford. Elise Daniell, Peter Hore, Gill Smith & Nigel Nicholls make up one Four on Saturday and Callum Beale is with players from other counties in another.  On Sunday Nigel pairs up with Elise, Peter with Gill and Callum with Northants player Ed Sawbridge.

INTER COUNTY RINKS
Cornwall have taken the decision to withdraw the Premier Team entered in the Inter County Rinks competition over the weekend of 7th & 8th December following the announcement from the ESMBA that the qualifying competition would be held in Solihull with all entered counties playing at the same venue instead of the expected local qualifiers.  On Sunday Devon also announced through their website (http://www.devonshortmat.co.uk/news.htmlthat they would be withdrawing from the competition citing the same reason.

COUNTY TWO WOOD PAIRS
Over the weekend 36 pairings competed at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club for the eight places available in the County Pairs finals, 19 on Saturday and 17 on Sunday.  Both days were organised as round robin competitions with four groups on each day with the group winners qualifying.

On Saturday Group One was topped by Diane Crocker & Shane Aldridge (Luxulyan) with a score of 6 points +8 shots with Gary & Lynne Davey (Landrake) second on 4 +26.  Group Two winners were Derek Foulds & David Balow (Marazion) with 6 +11 ahead of Nicola Ellis & Louise Williams (Helston) on 4 +12.  Sandra & John Worton (St Newlyn East) topped Group Three with 5 +17 ahead of Chris Roberts & Tony Jago (Ladock) on 3 -1.  The final qualifiers on Saturday were John Garrison (Penlee) & Kevin Williams (Newlyn Trinity) from Group Four with 6 +23 finishing ahead of Bob Smith (Porthleven) & Percy Tripp (Newlyn Trinity) on 4 +12.

On Sunday Group One was topped by Elise Daniell & Peter Hore (Holmans) with 6 +22 ahead of Nathan Waters (Withiel) & Luke Jolly (Holmans) on 4 +27.  Group Two winners were Ray Jeffery & Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) with 6 +24 ahead of Robert Rawlings & Brenda Sleep (Dobwalls) on 4 +4.  Karen Watson (Saltash) & Callum Beale (Withiel) topped Group Three with 6 +23 ahead of Keith Matthews & Max Burden (Blisland) on 4 +19.  The final qualifiers from the weekend were Janet Carter & David Topliffe (Boscastle) with 6 +24 ahead of Joyce Harding (Luxulyan) & Graham Ford (Ladock) 4 +2.

The eight successful teams will return to Carnmoggas on Sunday 19th January to contest the finals.

COUNTY FOURS
On Sunday 10 November 20 teams competed in the County Fours at Carnmoggas with 8 teams going forward to the County Finals later in the season.  The competition was played on a round robin basis with five group winners and three best runners up qualifying for the finals.

Group One winners were Leonard Lee, Roy Saxby, Caroline & Alan Trubshaw (Duloe) with 4 points +16 shots ahead of Dianne & Dennis Shorthouse and Heidi & Richard Kerr (Landrake) on 4 +3.  Group Two winners were Simon Lees, Morgan Lees, Ray Jeffery & Nigel Nicholls (Newyn Trinity) on 5 +8 ahead of John Garrison (Penlee), Malcolm Daniels (Hayle), Annette Topham (Penlee) & Mark Payne (Penzance) on 4 +12 who claimed a runners up spot.  Janet Carter, Jane Spatchett, Bob Banks & David Topliffe (Boscastle) topped a tight group Three on 4 +16 ahead of Peter Ramsden, Christine Kitley, Sandra & John Worton (St Newlyn East) on 4 +13 who also qualified.  Elise Daniell, Nicholas Truscott, Peter Hore & David Studden (Holmans) topped Group Four with 5 +28 ahead of Phil Stevens (St Ives), Bob Smith (Porthleven), Percy Tripp (Newlyn Trinity) & Frank Plummer (St Ives) on 4 -1.  The final Group was topped by Nathan Waters, Glynn Roy (Withiel), Luke Jolly (Holmans) & Callum Beale (Withiel) with 6 +19 ahead of Stephen Goddard (Penlee), Ronnie Thomas, John Thomas, Kevin Williams (Newlyn Trinity) on 4 +12 who took the final runners up spot.

The eight successful teams will return to Carnmoggas on Saturday 18th January to contest the finals.

NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
On Saturday 9th November the remainder of the first of The National Championship Qualifiers were contested at Carnmoggas.

In the Singles four group winners progressed to the Semi Finals where Callum Beale (Withiel) defeated Luke Jolly (Holmans) 12-2 and Peter Hore (Holmans) won 10-8 against Dennis Shorthouse (Landrake).  In the final Hore defeated Beale 14-4.

The Fours was played on a round robin basis.  The winners were John Worton (St Newlyn East), Nicola Ellis (Helston), Louise Williams (Helston) & Chris Roberts (Ladock) with 4 points -7 shots.  Second were Nathan Waters (Withiel), Martin Boraston (Duloe), Callum Beale (Withiel) & Luke July (Holmans) on 3 +12.  Third were Elise Daniell (Holmans), Sandra Worton (St Newlyn East), Gill Smith (Newlyn Trinity) & Peter Hore (Holmans) on 3 -4.  Fourth were Kevin Williams, John Thomas, Mike Dyer & Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) on 2 -1.

Worton, Ellis, Williams and Roberts also qualified for the Mixed Fours defeating Daniell, Smith, Nicholls and Hore 11-3 in the elimination match.

Cornwall will again not be represented in the National Under 18's as no entries were received.

The top placed team in each discipline is guaranteed a place at the National Championships with others dependant on the allocation of places that will be published later in the season.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday Cornwall travel to the Dorset Bowls Resort for the latest round of ESMBA Inter County Championship matches.  Cornwall's Premier Team need a strong result to maintain hopes of qualification for the knockout stages of the competition.  The A Team are still without a match win this season and lie at the bottom of the South West group 17 points behind third placed Somerset.  The match gets underway at 1030 with regular update throughout the day on the CCSMBA social media channels.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday Cornwall completed their home fixtures in this seasons ESMBA Inter County Championship when they hosted Dorset at Carnmoggas.

The Premier Team started with three wins in the first session.  In the Singles Nigel Nicholls and Peter Hore winning 14-8 and 15-13 respectively.  In the Pairs John Worton & David Studden won 13-11.  Cornwall maintained a lead in the match with a shared second session with wins for Sandra Worton, Percy Tripp & Kevin Williams 12-7 in the Triples and Nathan Waters, Nicholas Truscott, Martin Boraston & Luke Jolly 11-7 in the Fours.

The third session saw points shared with Nicholls winning 12-7 in the Singles where Cornwall secured the bonus point by two shots.  Worton & Studden won 18-10 in the Pairs but the bonus points were lost.  Cornwall remained in the lead of the match going into the last session by 16 points to 10.  The final session saw Dorset take 10 of the 12 points on offer with only Jolly's Rink taking a 10-8 win offering any resistance to the Dorset onslaught which saw them win three games and secure the bonus points to complete a 22 points to 18 and 201 to 181 shots victory. 

With two away matches remaining, against Dorset on November 24th and Devon on January 12th Cornwall will need to hit top form in both matches to have any chance of securing a place in the knockout competition.  In the days other South West group match Devon hosted Somerset winning 27 points to 13.  Dorset now lead the on 96 points ahead of Cornwall on 82, Devon 81 and Somerset 61.  The other remaining fixtures see Somerset host Devon on December 1st and Somerset on January 12th.

The A Team drew the first session through wins in both Singles, Alan Trubshaw 16-10 and Mark Payne 15-14.  The second session was also drawn with wins for both Fours
Meg Horrell, Carole Dodd, Tony Jago & Ken Horrell 17-13 and Dianne Shorthouse, Des Pengelly, Caroline Trubshaw & John Dodd 12-8.  At the halfway point in the match the score was level 8 points apiece.

The afternoon sessions saw Cornwall claim 6 of the 24 points on offer with Payne taking a 12-11 win in the Singles.  The Singles and Fours bonus points were secured.  The final match score Cornwall 14 points 168 shots Dorset 26 points 235 shots.  Devon A defeated Somerset 26 points to 14 in the days other South West group game.  Dorset lead the table on 99 points from Devon on 86, Somerset 76 and Cornwall 59.

NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
On Saturday the first of two days of National Championship Qualifiers was contested at Carnmoggas.

In the Pairs John Thomas & Kevin Williams (Newlyn Trinity) won through to the final defeating Gill Smith & Nigel Nicholls 11-9.  Luke Jolly (Holmans) & Callum Beale (Withiel) defeated John Worton (St Newlyn East) & Dennis Shorthouse (Landrake) 8-6 to take the other final spot.  Jolly & Beale defeated Thomas & Williams 12-2 in the final whilst Worton & Shorthouse defeated Smith & Nicholls 10-3 to take third place.

A close Over 55's pairs saw John Thomas & Nigel Nicholls take the top spot with 8 points +7 shots, Richard Kerr & Dennis Shorthouse second on 8 +5, Mike Webster & Rita Hancock (Blisland) third on 6 +16 and Bob Smith (Porthleven) & Kevin Williams fourth on 4 -12.

The Triples saw Elise Daniell (Holmans), John Worton (St Newlyn East) & Peter Hore (Holmans) unbeaten 10 points +34 shots.  Gill Smith, David Studden (Holmans) & Nigel Nicholls second on 8 +3.  Martin Boraston (Duloe), Luke Jolly & Callum Beale third on 5 -4 and Louise Williams, Nichola Ellis and David Hickey (Helston) fourth on 3 -20.

The top placed team in each discipline is guaranteed a place at the National Championships with others dependant on the allocation of places that will be published later in the season.

The remaining National Qualifiers will be played this coming Saturday with the Fours, Mixed Fours, Singles and if any entries have been received the Under 18's contested at Carnmoggas.  On Sunday 23 teams are entered in the County Fours at Carnmoggas.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday Cornwall face Dorset at Carnmoggas in the first of two matches in three weeks that could prove key to determining the final placings in the Premier section of the South West group in the ESMBA Inter County Championship.

Dorset currently lead the Premier section with 74 points ahead of Cornwall on 64 points and Devon on 54 points.  Cornwall have ground to make up in the A Team section where Dorset lead on 73 points ahead of Somerset on 62, Devon on 60 and Cornwall on 45.

The match gets underway at 1000 and is expected to conclude at around 1600.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
Last weekend three local bowlers travelled to Skein in Norway to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour Norwegian Open.

Nigel Nicholls won four out of five games in Group Three to progress into the Cup knockout.  In the Last 64 he defeated Swede Tobias Egestrand 19-4 before losing on a tie break in the last 32 to another Swede Christer Nordin.

Peter Hore was unbeaten in Group Twelve with four wins and a draw to top the group and earn a bye into the last 32 where he lost 4-19 to Irish bowler Mark Beattie.

Elise Daniell came back from defeat in her first group game to win her other four to top Group Thirteen and also earn a bye into the last 32 where she defeated Mark Chittock 12-8.  In the Last 16 Elise lost to Nordin 5-11.

In the World Rankings, which take into account the past 12 tournaments,  Nigel moves back into the top five on 763.13 points.  Peter climbs nine places to 34th with 465 points and Elise climbs eight places to 36th with 450.50 points.

The SMPT take a break from Singles competitions with the next competitions being the World Fours on Saturday 30th November and World Pairs on Sunday 1st December.  The next Singles event is the British Open over the weekend of 11th and 12th January.

NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
On Saturday the local qualifiers for the National Pairs, Triples and Over 55's Pairs will be played at Carnmoggas.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday Cornwall faced Somerset in the ESMBA Inter County Championship.  

The Premier Team started slowly with one win in the first session, Peter Hore winning 11-9 in the Singles.  In the second session the points were shared with wind for Sandra Worton, Percy Tripp & Kevin Williams 19-10 in the Triples and Nicholas Truscott, Gill Smith, Martin Boraston & Luke Jolly 18-9 in the Fours.

The third session saw Cornwall hit 20 shots on three mats as they took 10 of the 12 points on offer.  Nigel Nicholls won 21-5 in the Singles, Elise Daniell & Callum Beale 20-6 and John Worton & David Studden 24-6 in the Pairs securing the bonus points in both disciplines.  The final session saw Somerset again hit back leaving Cornwall to claim one win by Williams' Triples 17-12 also taking the bonus points.  The final match score Cornwall 20 points 212 shots Somerset 20 points 182 shots

The third session saw Cornwall claim 9 points.  Mark Payne winning 22-6 in the Singles which secured the bonus points.  The the Pairs Austen Runnalls stepped in to replace Lynn Smith and with Alan Holden recorded 28-2 win whilst Dianne Shorthouse & David Topliffe drew 11-11 securing the bonus points.  Only one win came Cornwall's way in the final session with Heidi Kerr, Bob Smith & Graham Ford winning 12-7 in the Triples.  The final match score Cornwall 17 points 188 shots Somerset 23 points 190 shots.

COUNTY TRIPLES
On Saturday 90 players took part in the County Triples at Carnmoggas with teams split into seven groups, the group winners and one best runner up going through to the county finals.

Group One was topped by Michael Liddicoat, Glynn Roy & Callum Beale with 6 points +22 shots.  Group Two winners were Betty Temple Smith, Max Burden & Keith Matthews (Blisland) with 6 +21.  In Group Three Nathan Waters, Ken Horrell (Withiel) & Luke Jolly (Holmans) qualified with 4 +10 after losing their last game.  Group Four produced the tightest finish of the day with Elise Daniell, Nicholas Truscott & Peter Hore (Holmans) drawing the final game against Martin Boraston, Caroline & Alan Trubshaw (Duloe) 8-8 to go through with 5 +20 and the Duloe trio taking the highest runners-up spot with 5 +19.

In Group Five Lynn Smith, Bob Smith (Porthleven) & Frank Plummer (St Ives) won a last game decider to finish on 6 +21.  Group Six saw Richard Kerr, Dennis Shorthouse & Neil Gribble (Landrake) win the group decider to finish on 6 +22.  In Group Seven a 7-6 win in the final game for Louise Williams, Nicola Ellis & Fran Phillips (Helston) saw the go through, finishing on 6 +6.

The eight qualifiers return to Carnmoggas for the finals on Sunday 19th January.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
Over this coming weekend three local bowlers are travelling to Norway to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour Norwegian Open competition.

Nigel Nicholls is drawn in Group Three where he will face Debbie Pye (ENG), Johan Anderson (SWE), PJ Gallagher (IRE), Tommy Dahlgren (SWE) and Ali Akbar (UAE).  Nigel's match against Gallagher is scheduled for broadcast on the SMPT Facebook page at around 1530 UK time on Saturday.

Peter Hore is drawn in Group Twelve against John Pye (ENG) Sebastian Jonson (SWE), Stephen Gale (IOM), James Trott (ENG) and Mio Kontic (ENG).

Elise Daniell is drawn in Group 13 and faces Jom Broberg (SWE), Anne Kasa (NOR), Elin Johansson (NOR), Pete Skoglund (SWE) and Anne Lene Kristoffersen (NOR)

On Sunday faced Devon in there first home match of this season's ESMBA Inter County Championship.  The Premier Team coming of the back of a win away to Somerset were looking for a good result against their cross border opposition.  The first session of Singles and Pairs was shared 4 points each with wins for Nigel Nicholls in the Singles (18-9) and Elise Daniell & Callum Beale in the Pairs (22-6).  The second session saw Devon take a 5-3 advantage, Cornwall's points scored by Dennis Shorthouse, Lynne Davey & Gary Davey in the Triples (19-3) and Graham Reeves, Richard Kerr, Chris Roberts & Neil Gribble in the Fours (9-9).

The third session proved decisive to the outcome of the match with Cornwall taking 10 of the 12 points on offer.  Wins for Peter Hore in the Singles (11-9), Daniell & Beale(13-11) and John Worton & David Studden (22-5) in the Pairs saw Cornwall also collect the bonus points in both disciplines.  The final session saw Cornwall secure the match win with wins for Percy Tripp, Sandra Worton & Kevin Williams in the Triples (14-7) and Reeves, Kerr, Roberts & Gribble in the Fours (14-7) with the Triples bonus points also secured the final match score Cornwall 23 points 203 shots Devon 17 points 163 shots.

COUNTY TWO WOOD SINGLES
On Saturday 37 players took part in the County Two Wood Singles at Carnmoggas with play split over morning and afternoon sessions with four qualifiers from each going forward to the finals at the end of the season.

In the morning the group winners were Martin Boraston (Duloe) 6 points +16 shots, Elise Daniell (Holmans) 4 +16, Fran Phillips (Helston) 5 +14 and John Dodd (St Newlyn East) 6 +18.  The afternoon group winners were Mark Payne (Penzance) 6 +16, Luke Jolly (Withiel) 6 +20, Peter Hore (Holmans) 6 +28 & Dave Balow (Marazion) 6 +9.

COUNTY TRIPLES
Thirty One teams are entered in the County Triples on Saturday at Carnmoggas with play getting under way at 0900.

On Sunday Cornwall travelled to Langport to face Somerset in the ESMBA Inter County Championship.  The Premier Team came away with a 21 points to 19 and 195 shots to 189 victory.  The first two sessions were shared 8 points each with Cornwall's points scored by Nigel Nicholls in the Singles (16-10), Elise Daniell & Callum Beale in the Pairs (11-7), Percy Tripp, Sandra Worton & Kevin Williams in the Triples (9-8) and Graham Reeves, Richard Kerr, Chris Roberts & Neil Gribble (10-7) in the Fours.  

Cornwall took the lead in the match in the match taking 8 of the 12 points on offer in the third session with wins for Nicholls (18-8), Daniell & Beale (12-11) and John Worton & David Studden (20-12) also securing the Pairs shots bonus points.  The final session a win for Tripp, Worton & Williams (19-10) secured the Triples bonus points and a draw for Nathan Waters, Nicholas Truscott, Martin Boraston & Luke Jolly (9-9) ensured Cornwall came away with the match win.

The A Team went down to a 28 points to 12 and 241 shots to 150 defeat.  In the first session Mark Payne came from behind to take a win in the Singles (13-12).  The second session saw a win in the Triples for Roger Hailey, Mike Webster & Brenda Sleep (14-10).  Leonard Lee, Jon Read, Caroline Trubshaw & John Dodd won in the Fours (10-5) to see Cornwall trail 6 points to 10 at the halfway point in the match.

The afternoon session saw a pair of wins in the Singles, Payne (14-10) and Alan Trubshaw (14-8) however the shots bonus points were out of reach.  The final session saw Cornwall claim a further 2 points with a win for Dianne Shorthouse, Bob Smith & Graham Ford in the Triples (14-13)

COUNTY MIXED FOURS
On Saturday 15 teams competed in the County Mixed Fours Competition at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club.  The teams were split into 4 groups with the group winners going forward to a knockout competition.

In the semi finals Cynthia Storer, Carol Ford, Tony Jago & Chris Roberts (Ladock) defeated Dot Nunn, Yolanda Featherstone, Des Pengelly & Alan Holden (Saltash Kernow) 12-6.  Julie Edwards, Howard McCormack, Wendy Carne & David Balow (Penlee) claimed a last bowl 7-5 win against Lynn Smith, Elise Daniell, Nicholas Truscott & Peter Hore (Holmans).  Robert’s Four went on to win the final by a comfortable 15-4 margin.

SUMMER LEAGUE FINAL

The two legged Summer League final between Nomads and Blisland was played recently with the first leg at Newlyn and second at Blisland.

At Newlyn, Nomads (Percy Tripp, Elise Daniell & Nigel Nicholls) were never headed by Blisland (Betty Temple Smith, Max Burden & Keith Matthew) winning 14-9 on the night.  In the second leg at Blisland Peter Hore replaced Percy Tripp in the Nomads line up.  In the early stages Nomads extended their lead before Blisland got back into the match on the 7th end with a score of 7 to move into a lead of 2 overall.  Scores of 2 and 3 on the 9th & 11th ends restored Nomads lead in the match with four ends to play.  Going into the final end Nomads led by 1 on aggregate but it was Blisland who picked up three on the last end to take a 27-25 win over the two legs.

COUNTY 2 WOOD SINGLES

On Saturday the County Two Wood Singles will be played at Carnmoggas with 24 bowlers due to play in Morning and Afternoon sessions to determine 8 qualifiers for the County Finals.
