NEWS RELEASE - 6 December 2009

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS

On Sunday (6 December) a small group of bowlers competed at Luxulyan Village Hall to earn a place representing Cornwall in the 2010 ESMBA National Championships in Bedford from 8th – 11th April 2010.

The first competition of the day, the Triples was won by Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity), Nicholas Truscott & Peter Hore (Holmans) who were undefeated with Elise Daniell, Dave Baxter & Peter Sully claiming second place overall.

The Singles competition was up next and came down to the final game between Peter Hore and Nigel Nicholls to decide the qualifier.  Hore opened up an early lead but was gradually overhauled by Nicholls who went on to claim the win 8-5 and earn the place in the championships.

The Pairs competition rounded off the day and also came down to the last game between Nicholas Truscott & Peter Hore and Margaret Jenkin & Nigel Nicholls.  Scores on the early ends saw Truscott & Hore open up a lead they would not relinquish as they went on to win 8-5.

Cornwall will not be represented on the Fours as insufficient entries were received to run a local qualification competition.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Cornwall face Dorset on Sunday (13 December) in the latest round of ESMBA Inter County Championship fixtures at the Dragon Leisure Centre, Bodmin.  The match gets underway at around 11.00 with play through until 15.30.  Good results for both the Premier and A teams will set Cornwall up with a good chance of having both teams qualify for the Main competition when the championship moves into the knockout stages later in the year.
