COUNTY TWO WOOD PAIRS
Over the weekend 30 Pairs competed at Carnmoggas for the 8 places in the County Finals towards the end of the season.

On Saturday 16 pairs were split into 4 groups of 4 with the four group winners qualifying for the finals.  Group One was topped by Sandra & John Worton (St Newlyn East) with 6 Points +17 shots ahead of Graham Reeves & Neil Gribble (Landrake) who finished with 2 +4.  Group Two winners were David Cole & Karen Watson (Saltash) with 4 +29 after defeating Peter Moyle & John Worth (Luxulyan) who finished on 4 +6, 14-6 in the final group game.  Group Three winners were Carol & John Dodd (St Newlyn East) with 6 +26 after defeating Chris Hall & Mark Slack who finished on 4 +10, 10-8 in the final group game.  Group Four winners were Chris Jennings & Mark Williams (Lanteglos) with 6 +28 ahead of Simon & Morgan Lees (Newlyn Trinity) who finished on 4 +18.

On Sunday 14 pairs were split into 2 groups of 4 and 2 groups of 3 with the four group winners again qualifying for the finals.  Group One was topped by Ray Jeffery & Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) with 6 +30 after defeating Steve Smith (St Newlyn East) & Tony Jago (Withiel) who finished on 4 +11, 14-4 in the final group game.  Group Two winners were Caroline & Alan Trubshaw (Duloe) with 6 +34 after defeating club mates Stephen Wilson & Leonard Lee who finished on 4 +9, 14-8 in the final group game.  Group Three winners were Max Burden & Keith Matthews (Blisland) with 4 +19 ahead of club mates Mike Webster & Rita Hancock on 2 -2.  Group Four winners were Steve Williamson & Austen Runnalls (Luxulyan) with 4 +6 after a 2 shot win against Elise Daniell & Peter Hore (Holmans) who finished on 2 +11. 

The eight group winners will return to Carnmoggas on Sunday 17th March for the finals.

NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
On Saturday the second day of National Championship qualifiers with entries from 10 clubs will be played at Carnmoggas with Cornwall representatives in the Pairs, Triples and Over 55's Pairs to be determined.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday Cornwall's Premier Team face Somerset at Carnmoggas.  With a number of this season's regular players unavailable, Team Manager Luke Jolly has taken the opportunity to try some different formations in the team.  Simon Lees and Steve Smith move to the Pairs.  Revised Triples line up sees John Read, Mark Slack and Mike Dyer in Triple 1 and Austen Runnalls, Ray Jeffery & Martin Boraston in Triple 2.  Mark Payne and Kevin Williams, making his first appearance of the year, join Morgan Lees and Richard Kerr in Four 1.  Mark Williams steps up from the A Team for this match in Four 2.

Cornwall are currently 52 points behind Devon in the standings with this game in hand.  A big win for Cornwall against Somerset will narrow that gap ahead of matches home and away against 
Devon.

INTER AREA LEAGUE
On Sunday the second round of the Inter Area League was played at Carnmoggas with another competitive day's bowling.

Session Scores
Session One - North 2 pts Central 6 pts, East 2 pts West 6 pts
Session Two - North 4 pts West 4 pts, Central 6 pts East 2 pts
Session Three - North 2 pts East 6 pts, West 7 pts Central 1 pt

Singles - West 4 pts +20, Central 4 -2, East 2 -4, North 2 -14
Pairs - Central 5 +28, West 5 +17, North 2 -22, East 0 -23 
Triples - East 6 +25, West 4 +2, Central 2-12, North 0 -15
Fours - West 4 +4, North 4 -3, East 2 +3, Central 2 -4

West finished top on the day with 17 points +43 shots to add to the 14 points from round 1 to lead the title race with 31 points +54 shots. Central finished second on the day with 13 +10 to add to the 15 points from round 1 to lie second with 28 points +28 shots.  East finished third with 10 points +1 shot to add to the 13 points from round 1 to lie third with 23 points +48 shots.  North finished fourth with 8 points -54 shots to add to the 6 points from round 1 to lie fourth overall with 14 points -130 shots.  The final round of matches will be played at Carnmoggas on Saturday 17th February.

CENTRAL AREA ELIZABETH CUP
In early October six Central Area clubs played over two Monday afternoons at St Newlyn East for the Elizabeth Cup.  St Newlyn East won the inaugural competition in 2022.

Three rounds of games were played on the 2nd October with the rest played on the 9th October.  After the first afternoon St Agnes were the only unbeaten team with 2 wins and a draw to lead the table ahead of Withiel and Luxulyan.

COUNTY SINGLES
Over the weekend 38 bowlers competed in the County Singles at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club.

On Saturday a number of withdrawals left 18 bowlers drawn into 1 group of 6 and 3 groups of 4 with the four group winners qualifying for the finals at the end of the season.

Group One qualifier was Martin Boraston (Duloe) with 6 points +20 shots, Steve Smith (St Newlyn East) was second with 4 +13.  Group Two qualifier was Paddy Spear (Saltash Kernow) with 5 +20, Steve Williamson (Luxulyan) was second with 4 +14.  Group Three qualifier was Nigel Taylor (Penzance) with 6 +8, John Worton (St Newlyn East) was second with 4 +11.  Group Four qualifier was Gary Davey (Liskeard) with 6 +27, second was John Moger (Boscastle) with 4 -13.

Fewer withdrawals on Sunday left 20 bowlers drawn into 5 groups of 4 with the group winners and 3 best runners up qualifying for a knockout round to find the four qualifiers.

Group One qualifiers were Simon Lees (Newlyn Trinity) with 5 +6 and Neil Gribble (Landrake) with 5 +2.   Group Two qualifier was Richard Kerr (Landrake) with 6 +30 with Rob D'Agostino (Kensey Vale) missing out with 4 -5.  Group Three qualifier was Percy Tripp (Helston) with 6 +20 with Andy Jiggens (Kensey Vale) missing out with 2 +/-0.  Group Four qualifiers were Karen Watson (Saltash) with 6 +35 and Mark Slack (Duloe) with 4 +2.  Group Five qualifiers were Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) with 6 +35 and Graham Reeves (Landrake) with 4 +5.

In the knockout round Neil Gribble (Landrake) defeated Mark Slack (Duloe) 9-7.  Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) won 15-12 against Richard Kerr (Landrake).  Simon Lees (Newlyn Trinity) won 10-9 against Percy Tripp (Helston).  Karen Watson (Saltash) defeated Graham Reeves (Landrake) 14-2.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
In the Inter County Championship on Sunday Devon defeated Dorset in both Premier and A Team fixtures.

Devon edged the Premier Team match 21-19 to increase their lead over Dorset to 12 points. The standings are now
1st Devon 4 matches 103 points,
2nd Dorset 4 matches 91 points,
3rd Cornwall 3 matches 51 points,
4th Somerset 3 matches 35 points.

The remaining fixtures in the group see Cornwall host Somerset on the 3rd December at Carnmoggas in what is a key match for Cornwall in their pursuit of a place in the knockout stages of the competition. On the 10th December Cornwall will host Devon at Carnmoggas while Somerset host Dorset at Wincanton. The Group fixtures complete on the 7th January with Cornwall away to Devon at the Manor House Hotel, Okehampton and Dorset hosting Somerset at the Dorset Bowls Resort.

In the A Team match Devon took a large win 32-8. Dorset have now completed their fixtures with 63 points. Devon have 57 points and Cornwall 40 meaning Cornwall need to take 49 points from the two fixtures between the two counties to claim top spot in the South West group. The two fixtures take place on the same day as the Premier Team fixtures.

INTER AREA LEAGUE
The second round of Inter Area League fixtures will be played at Carnmoggas on Sunday. After the first round Central lead on 15 points, West 2nd on 14, East 3rd on 13 and North 4th on 6.

COUNTY TWO WOOD PAIRS
The County Two Wood Pairs with 34 entries, 17 on each day, will be played at Carnmoggas over the weekend of 25th & 26th November.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS
On Saturday three National Championship Qualifiers were played at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club during a 14 hour day of bowling.

First up was the National Fours.  Qualifying from the stages were Martin Boraston, Mark Slack, Caroline Trubshaw & Alan Trubshaw (Duloe) with 6 points +23 shots, Chris Jennings, Rosie Glover, Eileen Williams & Mark Williams (Lanteglos) with 4 +9, Elise Daniell (Holmans), Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity), Peter Hore (Holmans) & Karen Watson (Saltash) with 5 +23 and Steve Williamson, Austen Runnalls, Christine Worth & John Worth (Luxulyan) with 3 +6.

In the Semi Finals Trubshaw won 10-3 against Worth and Watson won 5-4 against Williams.  Watson won the final against Trubshaw 8-5 with Williams winning the 3rd place match 6-3 against Worth.

Next to be played was the Mixed Fours where each of the three teams won one game each.  Coming out on top were Elise Daniell, Sandra Worton (St Newlyn East), Peter Hore & Nigel Nicholls with 2 points +3, 2nd were Mark Slack, Karen Burton, Caroline Trubshaw & Alan Trubshaw with 2 +2.  3rd were Dianne Shorthouse, Heidi Kerr, Richard Kerr & Dennis Shorthouse  (Landrake) with 2 -5.

The long day of bowling was completed late in the evening with the Singles.  The Quarter Finals saw Peter Hore win 10-2 against Caroline Trubshaw.  Nigel Nicholls won 9-3 against Elise Daniell.  Steve Williamson won 10-5 against Luke Jolly and Mark Williams won 12-4 against Mark Slack.  In the semi finals Nicholls won 9-4 against Hore and Williamson defeated Williams 9-8.  Nicholls won the Final 8-5 against Williamson.  Williams took third place after defeating Hore 8-7 after an entra end.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday Cornwall hosted Dorset at Carnmoggas in the ESMBA Inter County Championship.

The Premier Team match started with Cornwall taking one win from the four games in the first session, Elise Daniell & David Studden 10-7 in the Pairs.  The second session saw a 13-4 win in the Fours scored by John Worton, Sandra Worton, Nicholas Truscott & Peter Hore and a 11-11 draw in the Triples for Austen Runnalls, Mark Payne & Steve Smith.  At the halfway stage in the match Cornwall trailed Dorset by 5 points to 11.

The afternoon Singles and Pairs saw Cornwall take three wins, Nigel Nicholls 12-11 and Luke Jolly 17-13 in the Singles and Daniell & Studden completing a double in the Pairs with a 16-9 win.  Dorset claimed both disciplines bonus points to maintain a 17-11 lead in the match.  The final session of Triples and Fours saw two wins apiece.  For Cornwall, Simon Lees, Mark Slack & Mike Dyer won 16-9 in the Triples and Worton, Worton, Truscott & Hore completed a double in the Fours with a 10-9 win.  Dorset claimed the Triples bonus points with the Fours shared.  The final match score Cornwall 16 points 175 shots Dorset 24 points 194 shots.

In the day's other South West group match Devon won 34-6 against Somerset. Half way through the group stages Devon lead the group with 82 points, Dorset 2nd with 72 points, Cornwall 3rd with 51 points and Somerset 4th with 35 points.  

The Premier Team are next in action on Sunday 3rd December when Somerset visit Carnmoggas.

The A Team match started with a shared first session, Cornwall winning both Singles, Dennis Shorthouse 15-9 and Mark Williams 26-6.  Dorset came back in the second session restricting Cornwall to one win scored by Dianne Shorthouse, Mark Albon, Caroline Trubshaw & David Topliffe 11-7 in the Fours.  Dorset led 10-6 at the halfway point in the match.

A strong third session for Cornwall in the afternoon Singles and Pairs saw three wins, Mark Williams 18-6 in the Singles, Graham Reeves & Rita Hancock 22-6 and Carol & John Dodd 17-11 in the Pairs, Cornwall secured the bonus points in both disciplines to take a 16-12 lead in the match.  Dorset however took the upperhand in the Triples and Fours again restricting Cornwall to one win scored by Heidi Kerr, Steve Williamson, Tony Jago & Brenda Sleep 10-8.  The final match score Cornwall 18 points 200 shots Dorset 220 points 184 shots.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS
This coming weekend the Four Wood Singles will be played at Carnmoggas with 23 players drawn to play on each day.  On Sunday 19th November the second round of Inter Area League matches will be played at Carnmoggas.  The weekend of the 25th & 26th November 34 pairs, 17 on each day play in the County Two Wood Pairs.  Saturday 2nd December see's the remaining National Qualifiers for Pairs, Triples and Over 55's Pairs played at Carnmoggas.
