CCSMBA News Release - 30 September 2012

CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION

NEWS RELEASE – 30 September 2012

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

On Sunday (7 October) Cornwall’s Short Mat Bowls county teams have an early start to travel to the Dorset Bowls Resort at Bere Regis to face Dorset in the latest round of ESMBA Inter County Championship matches.

Cornwall’s Premier Team will be looking to consolidate second place in the group with a solid result against Dorset who they defeated 23-17 at Carnmoggas three weeks ago.  There will however need to be a much improved performance from the team after the 27-13 defeat at the hands of Somerset in Taunton two weeks ago.  In that match Cornwall’s two England representatives, Peter Hore and Nigel Nicholls, in the Singles scored 10 of the total of counties 13 point total with the Fours recording 2 points, the Triples 1 and none from the Pairs.

The A Team have a great opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table against  a Dorset team who they comfortably defeated 29-11 at Carnmoggas.  Player availability is a concern for Team Manager Chris Cawrse with a number of possible absentees preventing the full team being announced at the time of writing.  After winning the National Consolation title 4 times in the past 6 seasons the solid start made this year puts Cornwall in a good position to challenge for the Main championship honours.

ENGLAND WEEKEND

Cornwall’s England representatives Peter Hore and Nigel Nicholls travelled to the Midlands on Saturday for the latest practice weekend ahead of the announcement of the squad for the British Isles championships at Potters in Norfolk 17th & 18th November.  With the team management still trying various combinations of players both played in different teams all day.  Nigel won 4 and lost 1 whilst Peter won 2 games, drew 1 ad lost 2.

COUNTY LEAGUES

The county league program gets underway this weeks with 80 teams competing across the four divisions.  31 in the West, 19 in the Central, 17 in the East and 13 in the North.  One new club join the league in the Eastern Area, Torpoint replacing Pelynt who have folded.

Help get Cornwall active - Member Recruitment Opportunity

The ‘Get Active Challenge’ is coming and we’re expecting over 1,000 people in Cornwall to take part… each of whom will be looking for different ways to get active!

Designed for Cornish companies and organisations, the six week Get Active Challenge is an online resource to motivate teams of three people to get more active. The teams can then use the website to log their weekly activity and track their progress around the Cornish coast.

Piloted last year with Cornwall Council, we had 600 employees take on the challenge and significantly increase their levels of activity during the six weeks.

This year we’re making it bigger and better by going out to every company and organisation in the county to submit as many teams as they wish. And, we want to ensure that no teams lose their momentum throughout the challenge by sending them weekly opportunities and offers for the participants to get involved in.

This is where you come in…

We are looking for partners to provide our Challengers with a number of opportunities throughout the six weeks of the Challenge. Perhaps you could offer a free taster session or a class designed specifically for beginners? Or, perhaps it’s something you’ve already got going on?... Just let us know about it!

With London 2012 inspiring the nation, this is a prime time to reach a new audience in Cornwall that is ready and looking for ways to get involved. So don’t miss out!

We would be really keen to see how we can come up with some real tangible offers that we could offer to support individuals to become more active, complete the challenge and increase participation in your sport.

Your sport would then be an activity focus during the month and each week a newsletter will be sent out to all of the participants promoting the offers. When we ran the challenge last year we had over 600 people involved just from Cornwall Council so this year we expect well over 1,000!

We are looking for the challenge to start on the 8th October with people starting to already register so can you please let me know if you have any activity planned during the next month, we will need the following:

  • Explanation of what it is and the benefits it offers
  • How to get involved
  • Offer of taster and beginner sessions
  • Offer discounts and vouchers

Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you.
