BRITISH ISLES CHAMPIONSHIPS
Over the weekend Peter Hore from the Holmans club in Camborne took his place in the England team at the British Isles Championship played at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton-on-Sea, Norfolk.
Playing in the team event Peter lined up alongside AJ Brown (Oxfordshire), Ben Pay (Hampshire) and Roger Wiggins (Oxfordshire) in one of the four rinks. The competition format see the results determined by the aggregate score across all four mats when each pair of countries meet.
On Saturday afternoon in England faced Wales in their opening games of the championships. England started the better team opening up a four shot lead across the four mats in the early stages but were unable to stretch that advantage as Wales held on and eventually reduced the deficit to 1 shot with a couple of ends to go and going on to win by 6 shots, England 29 Wales 35 with Peter’s rink losing 6-8.
Sunday morning saw England next up against Scotland and keen to record a strong result to set up a deciding final set of games against Ireland. England raced into a 13 shot lead after three ends, extending that to 20 after five ends and eventually winning by 48 shots with Peter’s rink recording an impressive 27-3 win. Against Ireland on Sunday afternoon England were soon behind dropping 9 on the first end with that extended to 20 shots by the half way point. England rallied over the closing ends but could only reduce the deficit to 16, losing by a score line of England 30 Ireland 46 with Peter’s rink recording the only win in the session for England by 15 shots to 9 to finish as the top scoring England rink. England finished in third place in the final standings.

In the Individuals Andrew Evans claimed the Singles title for Wales. Ireland claimed the Pairs with R O’Neill & L Harrison and the Fours with M Wilson,A Paul, G Smith & C Hogg. England took the Triples with National Champions Chris Weston, Ed Sawbridge and Chris Hopkins of Northamptonshire taking the title after a 14-13 win over their Irish rivals in the final game.
INTER AREA LEAGUE
Locally the second round of Inter Area League fixtures were played at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowls Club on Sunday with North v West and Central v East. At the time of writing no results information has been received.
COUNTY TRIPLES
Over the forthcoming weekend the qualification competition for the County Triples will be played at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowls club with 41 teams split across the two days with 21 playing on Saturday and 20 on Sunday chasing the 8 spots available in the county finals later in the season.
