COUNTY TWO WOOD SINGLES

On Saturday the finals of the County Two Wood Singles were played at Fowey Community Leisure Centre. In the Quarter Finals Robert Flower (Tintagel) defeated Joe Dixon (Withiel) 12-3. Ken Horrell (Withiel) was a 10-8 winner against Graham Ford (St Newlyn East). Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) took a comfortable 14-5 win over Martin Boraston (Liskeard), John Keers (St Newlyn East) completed the semi final qualifiers with a 10-7 win over Susan Ashton (Saltash).
In the semi finals Ken Horrell recovered from a 4-9 after 12 ends to level the score 9-9 after the 15 scheduled ends against Robert Flower forcing an extra end which Robert won to claim a place in the final against Nigel Nicholls who defeated John Keers 13-5. In the final Robert scored first claiming two on the first end before Nigel rolled off 10 consecutive scores to claim the title with a 13-2 win.
COUNTY FOUR WOOD PAIRS
On Saturday afternoon attention turned to the County Four Wood Pairs. The quarter finals saw Patsy Wakeley & Chris Roberts (Ladock) defeat Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) & Percy Tripp (Helston) 9-3. A score of 4 on the 7th end for Gary Davey & Martin Boraston (Liskeard) saw them take control off their game against Barbara James & Miriam Barbery (Dobwalls), eventually running out 10-4 winners. Elise Daniell & Peter Hore (Holmans) comfortably defeated Graham Sleep & Bill Sharp (Dobwalls) 16-3. A score of 4 on the eighth end proved crucial for Nicholas Truscott (Holmans) and Gillian Cawrse as they defeated Betty Temple-Smith & Phil Hicks (Luxulyan) 11-7.
In the semi finals Patsy and Chris were comfortable 13-2 winners against Gary & Martin. The other semi between Elise & Peter and Nicholas & Gillian was closely contested in the early stages with score reading 6-4 in Nicholas & Gillian’s favour after 6 ends played. The seventh end saw Nicholas & Gillian pickup a score of seven to move 13-4 in to the lead prompting Peter to concede the game with two ends to play.
The final was again closely contested in the early stages before Patsy and Chris established a lead of three with an end to play. Despite Nicholas & Gillian’s best efforts they could only pickup two shots to leave the final score 8-7 in Patsy & Chris’s favour.
INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
