| | CCSMBA NEWS RELEASE NEWS RELEASE 25 September 2016 INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP On Sunday Cornwall hosted Devon at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club in the second Inter County Championship match of the season. The Premier Team started with a solitary point in the first session, Nigel Nicholls drawing 14-14 in the Singles. Peter Hore lost the other singles 9-21 and in the Pairs John Worton & Karen Watson lost 12-16 and David Balow & David Studden 11-12. The second session saw two points come Cornwall's way with Dennis Shorthouse, Graham Reeves, Gary Davey & Neil Gribble winning 15-6 in the Fours. Elise Daniell, Percy Tripp, Tom Westlake & Luke Jolly lost the other Fours 7-14. Both Triples Ronnie Thomas, Martin Boraston & Gillian Cawrse and Mike Dyer, Nicholas Truscott & Kevin Williams lost 7-16. Cornwall trailed 3-13 at the half way point in the match. The third session the points were shared with both Pairs winning and taking the bonus points, Balow & Studden 17-10 and Worton & Watson 14-12. In the Singles Nicholls lost 11-17 and Hore went down by a single shot 8-9. In the final session the home team picked up four of the twelve points on offer. In the Fours Jolly's rink won 14-8 and Gribble's lost 5-13 meaning the bonus points were shared. In the Triples Williams took a 12-12 draw and Cawrse lost 11-12. The final match score Cornwall 13 points 174 shots Devon 27 points 208 shots. With Dorset recording a 27-13 win over Somerset they lead the way on 53 points from two matches, Devon are second with 27 points from one, Cornwall third also on 27 from two and Somerset fourth with 13 from one. The A Team again started strongly with an advantage in the first session with wins for Chris Roberts 13-9 & Alan Holden 14-11 in the Singles and Betty Temple-Smith & Bob Banks 20-5 in the Pairs. The other Pair of Keith Williams & Ray Jeffery lost 8-17. A shared second session saw Lynne Davey, Derek Newton & Graham Ford win 10-9 in the Triples and Diane Shorthouse, Henry Kendall, Mike Webster & Keith Matthews win 13-4 in the Fours. The second Triple of Tony Baldwin, John Dodd & Brenda Sleep lost 7-15 and the second Four of Meg Horrell, Sandra Worton,Tony Jago & Ken Horrell lose 9-11. Cornwall led 10-6 at the halfway point of the match. In the third session Cornwall took three wins, in the Singles Roberts won 13-11 though defeat for Holden by 6-20 saw the bonus points go Devon's way. In the Pairs Temple-Smith and Banks won 17-11 and Williams & Jeffery claimed their first win of the season 17-9. Cornwall comfortably took the bonus points. Devon closed the gap in the final session taking eight of the twelve point on offer. Cornwall sealed the overall match with a win in the fours for Horrell's rink 12-8 and despite Matthews' rink losing 4-12 the bonus points were secured. Bothe Triples lost, Ford 11-16 and Sleep 16-18. The final match score Cornwall 22 points 190 shots Devon 18 points 186 shots. Cornwall lead the way with 51 points from two matches, Dorset have 31 from two, Somerset 20 from one and Devon 18 from one Cornwall are next in action on Sunday 9th October when Somerset are the visitors to Carnmoggas. MIXED FOURS On Saturday 12 teams competed in the County Mixed Fours at Carnmoggas. Played with four groups of three the group winners then progressed to Semi Finals. Julie Edwards, Howard McCormack, Wendy Carne (Penlee) & David Balow (Marazion) won Group One with 4 points +12 shots. Elise Daniell (Holmans), Caroline Moore (Luxulyan), Nicholas Truscott & Peter Hore (Holmans) took Group Two with 4 +9. Lynne Davey (Landrake), Martin Boraston (East Taphouse),, Gillian Cawrse (Lostwithiel) & Gary Davey (Landrake) won Group Three with 2 +10 and Diane Shorthouse (Landrake), Alice Grimshaw (Treviscoe), Graham Reeves (Saltash) & Dennis Shorthouse (Landrake) progressed from Group Four 4 +12. In the Semi Finals Davey defeated Shorthouse 7-6 and Hore won 17-3 against Balow. Davey won the Final 8-7 against Hore. ESMBA OPEN FOURS Cornwall's England Squad members will all take part in the ESMBA Open Fours on Saturday ahead of a squad practice day on Sunday. INTER AREA LEAGUE Back in the county the first round of Inter Area League matches will be played at Carnmoggas on Sunday with North facing Central and East against West. | | | | | | |
