INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

On Sunday Cornwall's Premier Team travelled to Northampton to face Northamptonshire in the Final of the ESMBA Inter County Championship Consolation competition.

The first session saw points shared with Cornwall win both Pairs, John Worton & Nicholas Truscott 16-10 and Elise Daniell & Mark Eddy 19-9.  The second session was also shared with Cornwall winning both Triples, Dennis Shorthouse, Martin Boraston & Gillian Cawrse 17-10 and Richard Brown, Ken Horrell & Neil Gribble 14-9.  At the halfway point in the match the scores were level at 8 points each.

The afternoon session did not prove as fruitful for Cornwall winning just two games, Nigel Nicholls 15-12 in the Singles and Brenda Sleep, Gary Davey, Chris Roberts & Percy Tripp 11-5 in the Fours.  Cornwall's six hour journey to the venue obviously telling against a team playing in their home county.  Cornwall held onto the bonus points earned from the morning session in Pairs and Triples to leave the final match score Cornwall 16 points 182 shots Northamptonshire 185 shots.  For Cornwall, to reach the final was a mark of the progress made through the season which started with a 6-34 defeat away to Devon.
