England announces £40 million to extend Inspired Facilities Fund to 2017
An Indoor Bowling
Club in Little Polgooth, St Austell, Cornwall, has secured Olympic legacy
funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.
Sport England
today revealed that more than 1,300 local sports projects across the country
have now received National Lottery funding through Inspired Facilities, parts
of its Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme.
Carnmoggas Indoor
Bowling Club will receive £49,920 of National Lottery funding to upgrade the
facilities to include new insulation, improved lighting and heating, existing
disabled access, refurbishment of toilet block and changing rooms, kitchen, and
spectator seating areas. The enhanced
facilities will enable the Club to attract additional local sporting organisations
to use the venue and increase the current membership of the Bowling Club. The Club has also recently secured a contract
with Cornwall County Short Mat Bowls Association for their County tournaments and competitions.
To celebrate the
award, local people are being invited to free taster sessions between 10.00am
and 5.00pm on Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 September and Sunday, 29 September
2013, to try out the sport. All are
welcome and food and refreshments will be provided.
Sport England’s
Chair, Nick Bitel, said: “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery
investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Cornwall.”
“With investment
now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to
supporting many more Sports Clubs in the South West who play such a vital role
in grassroots sports.”
Local MP, Steve
Gilbert, Liberal Democrat for St Austell and Newquay said: “This is a
significant award that will make a real difference to the Club enabling it to
build on the excellent work that it already does and reach out to new parts of
the community too. I’d like to commend
those at the Club who were responsible for the bid to Sport England and it’s
very welcome that this extra investment is coming to our part of the world.”
Carnmoggas Indoor
Bowling Club is one of well over 300 projects across England receiving lottery
investment from the fourth round of the Inspired Facilities Fund and one of
more than 1,300 to benefit overall.
Many more
communities are now set to benefit from the hugely popular fund, after Sport
England today announced that it was extending Inspired Facilities until 2017,
with an additional £40 million of National Lottery funding to invest. Bids will be accepted for the next round of
Inspired Facilities funding from the 21 October 2013. You can find out more at: www.sportengland.org/inspiredfacilities.
