COUNTY FINALS

On Sunday the finals of the County Two Wood Singles and Four Wood Pairs were played at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowls club.

First up was the Singles, in the Quarter finals Peter Hore (Holmans) defeated Ken Horrell (Withiel) 15-5 with two ends to spare.  Henry Matthews (Withiel) was a 12-7 winner against Keith Williams (Penlee) with an end to spare.  Brenda Sleep (Dobwalls) had two ends to spare in defeating Graham Ford (St Newlyn East) 12-6.  Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) defeated David Topliffe (St Minver) 18-6.

The Semi Finals saw Peter comfortably defeat Henry 14-5 with three ends to spare and Nigel defeat Brenda 15-6.  The final between Peter and Nigel saw the lead change hands 5 times with never more than 2 shots between them until the final end.  Nigel, leading the game by 1, drew a back toucher.  Peter struck the jack with force but it stayed with Nigel's bowl and Nigel retained the title he won last season.

Immediately following the Singles the Pairs was contested.  In the Quarter Finals Joe Dixon (Withiel) & Keith Matthews (Blisland) received a bye as their drawn opponents were unable to take their place in the line up.  Derek Elliott & Mark Eddy (Holmans) started strongly against Des Pengelly & Alan Holden (Landrake) with 3 on the first end before a succession of 1's either way and a tied end left the score tied after the 9 scheduled ends.  Des and Alan took one on the extra end to win the game.  Defending champions Patsy Wakeley & Chris Roberts (Ladock) led 4-3 after 5 ends against Margaret Jenkin & Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) before successive scores of 3 and 6 for Margaret and Nigel put the game out of the reach of Patsy & Chris with an end to spare.  Margaret & John Menhenick (Wadebridge) were never headed in defeating Diane & Martin Williams (Penlee) 11-5

In the Semi finals Des and Alan won more ends against Joe & Keith but two scores for 4 for Joe and Keith proved decisive as they won 11-7.  Margaret & Nigel established an 11-5 lead against Margaret & John before a late comeback saw the Wadebridge pairing reduce the final deficit to 11-9.  In the Final Joe & Keith established a 4-1 lead against Margaret & Nigel early on before an exchange of 3 shots each way moved the score onto 7-4.  Four successive scoring ends for Margaret & Nigel saw them take the title 11-7.

Nicholas Truscott (Luxulyan), Elise Daniell (Holmans) & Peter Hore (Holmans) successfully defended the Team of Three title over two legs last week against the same opposition they defeated in last year's final, Kay Goddard, Roy Christophers & Percy Tripp (Helston)

On Sunday at Holmans Peter defeated Percy 12-2 in the Singles.  Elise & Nicholas won the Pairs 11-6 against Roy & Kay.  Elise, Peter and Nicholas won the Triples 13-3 to take a 25 shot lead into Thursdays return match at Helston.  On Thursday night Peter again defeated Percy 8-5.  Elise & Nicholas took an 11-4 win the Pairs to stretch the lead to 35 shots overall at which point Helston conceded the Triples with the overall score Holmans 55-10 Helston.
