ESMBA INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Cornwall’s Premier Team travelled to Bristol on Saturday to face Hampshire in the Quarter Finals of the ESMBA Inter County Championship Consolation competition.

The first session seemed to set the stage for  close contest with Hampshire claiming a small 5-3 points advantage and just 3 shots separating the two counties.  Cornwall’s points recorded by Peter Hore in the Singles (14-10) and Joe Coups & David Studden’s (11-11) in the Pairs.

The second session looked to be equally close until a couple of substantial scores, a 5 in one of the Triples and a 7 in one of the Fours tipped the balance of power firmly towards Hampshire as they completed an 8-0 session victory to move firmly into the lead of the match 13 points to 3.

The afternoon Singles and Pairs saw a repeat of the morning score line of 5-3 in Hampshire’s favour.  Cornwall Points recorded by Nigel Nicholls recording a draw in Singles (11-11) and Gillian Cawrse and Percy Tripp winning in the Pairs (15-12).  Cornwall earned a bonus point from the Singles with the final shots count reading 46 apiece reflecting the close nature of the four games.  Hampshire claimed the points for the pairs to hold a match winning lead of 21 points to 7 going into the last session.

The final session again saw Hampshire take a clean sweep the Triples and Fours games to complete a dominant 33 points to 7 and 194 shots to 133 win.
