INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Cornwall’s Premier team will be seeking to follow there A Team colleagues into the Semi Finals of the ESMBA Inter County Championship Consolation Competition when they take on Hampshire at the Bristol Indoor Bowls Centre on Saturday 26 February. Cornwall go into the match off the back of three wins, the most recent against Avon three weeks ago. Progression to the Semi Finals would see Cornwall face either Norfolk or Shropshire a week on Saturday (5 March) when the A team will also be playing Oxfordshire in there Semi Final.
BRITISH ISLES A TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Peter Hore from the Holmans club will be representing England in the British Isles A Team Championship on the weekend of 19 and 20 March in Swansea. Peter, a regular member of the Cornwall County team has been selected to play Singles in the individual event, a role he also fulfils in the Cornwall County Team. This will be Peter’s second appearance in the championships having taken a place in the team championship in 2009.
COUNTY LEAGUES
As the end of the season approaches the race for the four places in the end of season Bebbington Cup competition is far from over.
In the Western Division 4 clubs are still in contention. Holmans lead the way with 81 points ahead of Newlyn Trinity Jowsters on 80, the two teams meet on the 3rd of March in what could turn out to be a crucial match in determining the area title. Helston Grylls are still in contention with 75 points and Penzance Comets who host Holmans this week have 71.
Withiel Oaks hold top spot in the Central area with 56 points, 9 ahead of a group of three clubs tied for second place St Newlyn East with two games remaining, Ladock Chiefs with three and Lostwithiel with four. Withiel Oaks face both Ladock Chiefs and St Newlyn East at home in their remaining fixtures. Lostwithiel were due to host St Newlyn East on Sunday (20 February).
Wadebridge A have secured the Northern area with a match to spare with Altarnun likely to claim second spot. Dobwalls lead the way in the East Area holding a 14 point lead over Liskeard with three games left to play at the time of writing.
The Bebbington Cup, which brings together the four area league winners is scheduled to be played at the Dragon Centre, Bodmin on Sunday 3 April from 0900.
