CCSMBA News Release - 27th January 2008

Cornwall County Short Mat Bowls News Release - 27th January 2008

Cornwall's Premier Team travelled to Pucklechurch, Avon to take on Herefordshire in the preliminary round of the Inter County Championship Consolation Competition.

Both of the morning sessions saw Cornwall take a 6-2 advantage to lead 12-4 at the half way stage, having only lost 2 of the 8 games. The third session saw the points shared as Nigel Nicholls took Cornwall's only win with his second singles victory of the day, while there were draws for Dave Studden in the other singles game and for the rink of Pam Hamley, Elise Daniell, Chris Cawrse and Peter Hamley. This left the score at 16-8 with just one session to play meaning Cornwall needed just one win to guarantee victory.

Defeats for both pairs and one of the triples meant Cornwall's hopes were pinned on Roy Christophers, Brenda Sleep and Carol Ford who held their nerve to secure a 15-8 victory. Cornwall also picked up the 4 bonus points for scoring the most shots throughout the day making the final score Herefordshire 14 points 171 shots - Cornwall 22 points 191 shots.

Cornwall will travel to Northampton on 16th February for their quarter final match where they will face the winners of the Shropshire v Wiltshire match.
