CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION

COUNTY TEAM
The County Team Trials and Squad Practice have taken place over the past two weekends ahead of Cornwall's first match in this season's ESMBA Inter County Championship away to Somerset on Sunday 6th October at their new  venue at Huish Episcopi Academy, Langport.  Cornwall's other group games are scheduled for

Sunday 13th October Home against Devon at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club
Sunday 20th October Home against Somerset at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club
Sunday 3rd November Home against Dorset at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club
Sunday 24th November Away against Dorset at Dorset Bowls Resort, Bere Regis
Sunday 12th January Away against Devon at ISCA Bowls Club, Exeter.
The knockout stages will run between February and April.

INTER AREA LEAGUE
The Inter Area League gets underway on Sunday at Carnmoggas with North against Central and East against West.  The competition follows the same format as the Inter County Championship with teams of 20 representing each area made up of two each of Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours.

ESMBA OPEN FOURS
On Saturday the ESMBA Open Fours takes place at Solihull Indoor Bowling Club with a maximum of 32 teams competing.  Further information is limited at the time of writing.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR - IRISH OPEN
Peter Hore and Elise Daniell travelled to Belfast over the weekend of 14th & 15th September to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour Irish Open.

Peter won his first three games in Group 33 to finish third in the group and take a place in the Plate competition where he lost to Paul Seaman 9-8 in the 1st Round.

Elise was one of three bowlers to finish on 6 points in Group 10 but was placed the lowest to take a place in the Shield knockout.  In the 1st round she defeated Catherine Roberts (Wal) 9-6. In the 2nd round she defeated Angus Barnes (Ire) 9-8.  In the Last 16 Elise lost 7-5 to Daniel Winmill (Eng).

The latest World Rankings see Nigel Nicholls slip to 6th place with 762.13 ranking points having missed this tournament.  Peter holds 43rd place with 390.75 points and Elise is 44th with 389.13 points.

The next tournament, the Norwegian Open, is over the weekend of 26th & 27th October.

CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION

COUNTY TEAM
The local Short Mat Bowls season gets underway on Sunday with the County Team Trials for invited bowlers at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club starting at 0930.  A further squad practice will take place on Saturday 21st September again at Carnmoggas.  On Sunday 22nd September Cornwall Squad members will play at Penlee as part of the clubs 100 year anniversary.  

Cornwall will field Premier and A teams in the ESMBA Inter County Championship with the first match away to Somerset on Sunday 6th October at Huish Episcopi Academy, Langport.  Cornwall's other group games are scheduled for

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR - IRISH OPEN
Peter Hore and Elise Daniell travel to Belfast over the weekend to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour Irish Open which has attracted an entry of 234 bowlers.  Elise is drawn in Group 10 where she will face an all Irish line up of John Mccallion, Jamie West, Noel Hall, Alan Paul and Timothy Franklin.  Peter is drawn in Group 33 where he will face John Jillings (WAL), Trevor Stubbs (IRE), Ann Dunlop (IRE), Con Mulholland (IRE) and Martin Harries (WAL).

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
Over the Bank Holiday weekend three local bowlers competed in the Short Mat Players Tour season UK Open in Chelmsford.

Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) came through Group 15 unbeaten and enjoyed a good run to the Semi Finals in the Cup knockout.  In the first round Nigel defeated Cennydd Howell (WAL)12-6.  Round Two saw a closer result defeating Ben Pay (ENG) 11-10 and Round Three saw a 11-6 win against PJ Gallagher (IRE).  In the Quarter Finals Nigel defeated James Trott (ENG) 13-11.  The Semi Final against Jonas Hager (SWE) ended in defeat 10-12.

Elise Daniell (Holmans) also qualified for the Cup knockout finishing second in Group 23 with three wins, a draw and a loss.  In the first round of the knockout she lost 2-11 to Robin Armstrong (ENG).  Peter Hore (Holmans)  finished fourth in a tough Group 22 with two wins, a draw and two losses.  In the first round of the Plate Knockout e lost 4-15 to Mark Chittock.

The next Short Mat Players Tour event is over the weekend of 14th and 15th September with the Irish Open at Belfast Indoor Bowling Club. 

ESMBA OPEN PAIRS
This Saturday see's the ESMBA Open Pairs taking place at Solihull Indoor Bowling Club with some players from Cornwall expected to take part.

SUMMER LEAGUE
The CCSMBA Summer League is well into the second half of the season and the divisional leaders are Nomads who have secured top spot in the West and Blisland Blues in the East.

The competition provides opportunity for bowlers to play through the Summer with nearly 140 bowlers having already played one or more matches in the competition.

Fixtures continue until the first week of September after which the two divisional leaders will play off for the title.

League tables for both divisions can be accessed from the links below.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
This coming weekend see's the start of the Short Mat Players Tour season with the UK Open in Chelmsford on Saturday and Sunday.

Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) is drawn in Group 15 of the Round Robin stages where he will face Gary Stewart (SCO), Phil Lodwick (CYP), Christine Holland (IOM), Gunnar Frantzen (NOR) and Ali Akbar (UAE).  Peter Hore (Holmans) is drawn in Group 22 where he will face Peter Clarke (ENG), Thore Amundsen (NOR), Peter Roberts (ENG), Joseph Beattie (IRE) & Lee Toleman (ENG).  Elise Daniell (Holmans) is drawn in Group 23 where she will face Stephen Jack (NOR), Brenda Crowe (ENG), Stephen Wilson (ENG), Barbara Johns (ENG) & Andrew Shorney (ENG).

ESMBA OPEN PAIRS
The following Saturday see's the ESMBA Open Pairs taking place at Solihull Indoor Bowling Club with some players from Cornwall expected to take part.

2019/20 SEASON
The winter season gets underway locally on Sunday 15th September with the County Team Trials at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club.  Players selected for the squad will return to Carnmoggas on Saturday 21st for a practice day ahead of the first Inter County Match against Somerset at their new venue in Huish Episcopi on Sunday 6th October.
