CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
NEWS RELEASE 22 September 2019

COUNTY TEAM
The County Team Trials and Squad Practice have taken place over the past two weekends ahead of Cornwall's first match in this season's ESMBA Inter County Championship away to Somerset on Sunday 6th October at their new  venue at Huish Episcopi Academy, Langport.  Cornwall's other group games are scheduled for

Sunday 13th October Home against Devon at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club
Sunday 20th October Home against Somerset at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club
Sunday 3rd November Home against Dorset at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club
Sunday 24th November Away against Dorset at Dorset Bowls Resort, Bere Regis
Sunday 12th January Away against Devon at ISCA Bowls Club, Exeter.
The knockout stages will run between February and April.

INTER AREA LEAGUE
The Inter Area League gets underway on Sunday at Carnmoggas with North against Central and East against West.  The competition follows the same format as the Inter County Championship with teams of 20 representing each area made up of two each of Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours.

ESMBA OPEN FOURS
On Saturday the ESMBA Open Fours takes place at Solihull Indoor Bowling Club with a maximum of 32 teams competing.  Further information is limited at the time of writing.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR - IRISH OPEN
Peter Hore and Elise Daniell travelled to Belfast over the weekend of 14th & 15th September to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour Irish Open.

Peter won his first three games in Group 33 to finish third in the group and take a place in the Plate competition where he lost to Paul Seaman 9-8 in the 1st Round.

Elise was one of three bowlers to finish on 6 points in Group 10 but was placed the lowest to take a place in the Shield knockout.  In the 1st round she defeated Catherine Roberts (Wal) 9-6. In the 2nd round she defeated Angus Barnes (Ire) 9-8.  In the Last 16 Elise lost 7-5 to Daniel Winmill (Eng).

The latest World Rankings see Nigel Nicholls slip to 6th place with 762.13 ranking points having missed this tournament.  Peter holds 43rd place with 390.75 points and Elise is 44th with 389.13 points.

The next tournament, the Norwegian Open, is over the weekend of 26th & 27th October.
