COUNTY FINALS
The finals of the County Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours were played at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club over the weekend.
The first title to be decided was the County Fours. In the Quarter Finals Sandra Worton, Carole Dodd, John Worton & Steve Smith came from 2-7 down to defeat Phil Searle, Graham Reeves, Alan Holden & Neil Gribble 11-7 with three consecutive scores of 3 over the closing ends. Elise Daniell, Kevin Williams, Luke Jolly & Peter Hore trailed 0-5 after five ends against Meg Horrell, Mark Albon, Tony Jago & Ken Horrell before seizing control of the game with scores of 3, 2, 2 and 3 to win 10-5.
Heidi Kerr, Dianne Shorthouse, Richard Kerr & Dennis Shorthouse were tied 4-4 after six ends against Peter Rendle, Sally Dewdney, Pat Ayotte & Mark Payne before moving ahead into a 9-4 lead going into the last end where Payne picked up a score of 3 for a final score of 9-7 to Shorthouse. Simon Lees, Morgan Lees, Percy Tripp & Nigel Nicholls trailed Mark Slack, Caroline Trubshaw, Martin Boraston & Alan Trubshaw 3-5 after five ends before scoring 4 , 2 & 5 over the next three ends to move into an unassailable 14-5 lead with an end to spare.
In the Semi Finals Hore opened up a 4-0 lead over Smith on the first two ends before Smith took control of the game to win 12-5. Nicholls won 10-3 against Shorthouse. The final proved to be a one sided affair with Nicholls defeating Smith 14-1 with an end to spare.
Saturday afternoon saw the County Singles decided. In the Quarter Finals Peter Hore won 12-6 against Alan Trubshaw. John Wortom defeated Rita Hancock 15-4. Dennis Shorthouse won 14-5 against David Balow. Karen Watson defeated Paddy Spear 14-4. In the semi finals Hore moved into an 8-2 lead against Worton after five ends. Worton scored 5 over the next two ends to close the gap to 1 shot before Hore again moved ahead to win 13-8 with an end to spare. In the other Semi Final Shorthouse opened up a 5-0 lead against Watson. Four consecutive ends saw Watson move ahead 8-5 before Shorthouse narrowed the gap to 8-7 after eight ends. Watson scored 2 over the next two ends to leave Shorthouse needing 4 on the last end to win where he could only take one shot leaving Watson a 10-8 winner. Watson won the final against Hore 12-3 to claim her first County Singles title.
On Sunday morning the first title to be decided was the County Pairs. In the Quarter Finals David Studden & Nigel Nicholls were comfortable 22-3 winners against Phil Searle & Alan Holden. David Cole & Karen Watson opened up a 4 shot lead against Dennis Shorthouse & Richard Kerr who then responded to move into a 6-4 lead after six ends. Cole & Watson again moved ahead to win 12-7 with an end to spare. John Read & Martin Boraston scored 2 on the first end against Sandra & John Worton who responded over the next four ends to lead 5-2 after five ends. Scores were traded over the next two ends to leave the score at 7-7 with two ends to go. Read & Boraston scored 5 shots on the last two ends to win 12-7. Elise Daniell & Peter Hore traded end scores with Tony Jago & Steve Smith over nine ends before scores of 2 and 3 on the last two ends saw them win 13-8.
In the Semi Finals Cole & Watson were always ahead in defeating Studden & Nicholls 10-5 with an end to spare. Read & Boraston were always ahead against Daniell & Hore winning 12-7 again with an end to spare. In the final Cole & Watson opened up a 5-0 lead before Read & Borsaton scored 1 shot on the fourth end. Cole & Watson moved further ahead to lead 9-1 after six ends. Read & Boraston responded over the next four ends with scores of 1, 3, 2 & 2 to tie the game at 9-9 with an end to play. The last end of the game saw no score taking the game to an extra end where Read & Boraston scored 1 to win 10-9 and take the title.
The final title to be decided on Sunday afternoon was the County Triples. In the Quarter Finals Martin Boraston, Caroline Trubshaw & Alan Trubshaw won 8 out of 10 ends to defeat Neil Gribble, Dennis Shorthouse & Richard Kerr 11-7. Nigel Nicholls, David Studden & Percy Tripp won 28-1 against Mike Day, Steve Ball & Lorraine Ball. Keith Whatley, Malcolm Daniels & Freddie Spurr won the first two ends against Sandra Worton, John Worton & Steve Smith who then went on to win the remaining ends of the game for a final score of 17-4. Meg Horrell, Ken Horrell & Tony Jago were always ahead against John Worth, Brenda Sleep & Richard Clark winning 9-3.
In the semi finals after an early exchange of three shots apiece Tripp moved ahead against Trubshaw going on to win 12-9. Smith opened up a 17-0 lead in the first five ends against Jago to take control of the game. Jago scored 7 shots over the next 4 ends for a final score of 17-7 to Smith. In the final between Smith and Tripp the early exchanges left the score at 2-2 after four ends. Scores of 3, 3 and 1 over the next three ends moved Smith into the lead and an eventual 10-6 win.
COUNTY OPEN DAY
This Sunday the CCSMBA hosts an open practice day for members at Carnmoggas between 1000 and 1500 with a £4 mat fee payable.
BEBBINGTON CUP
Newlyn Trinity Jowsters have completed the lineup for the Bebbington Cup on Saturday 25th March at Carnmoggas joining St Newlyn East, Duloe and Blisland as the four area league winners playing off for the County League Title.
CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
The County Champion of Champions will be played at Carnmoggas on the afternoon of Saturday 25th March.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The National Championships will be played at the end of the month at Melton Mowbray Indoor Bowling Club. The Singles will be played on Thursday 30th March, Pair on Friday 31st March, Fours on Saturday 1st April and Triples on Sunday 2nd April.
