INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

On Sunday Cornwall's Short Mat Bowls Premier Team travelled to Winchester to face Hampshire in the first match of the 2022/23 Inter County Championship season.

The first session saw Hampshire take a 6-2 advantage with Nigel Nicholls Cornwall's only winner by a margin of 17-4 in the Singles.  The second session again saw a 6-2 advantage to Hampshire with the Triple of Elise Daniell, Nicholas Truscott and Martin Boraston taking Cornwall's only points with a 23-5 win.  At the lunch break Hampshire led by 12 points to 4 and 102 shots to 86.

The third session saw Hampshire take another 6-2 advantage with Nicholls again the sole points scorer for Cornwall winning 19-8.  Cornwall claimed the bonus points for the Singles .  The final session saw the pattern of 6-2 session advantages to Hampshire completed with Daniell, Truscott and Boraston Triple winning 18-11.  Cornwall claimed the bonus points for the Triples.

Two games across the day finished with a margin of 2 shots and three with a margin of 4 shots highlighting the competitive nature of the day's bowling.

The final match score was Hampshire 28 points 207 shots Cornwall 12 points 172 shots.  In the day's other Premier One Group One match Dorset defeated Devon 35 points to 5.  Dorset won the A Team match between the two counties 25 points to 15.

The next event on the County Calendar is the first of three rounds of Inter Area competition on Saturday 8th October.  The competition has been revised this year in response to reduced player availability and will only require a minimum of 10 players per area and each area will play each other over the course of the day.  On Sunday 9th both County Premier and A Teams travel to Bere Regis to face Dorset.

The closing date for County Competition entries is this Friday, 30th September.
