CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
News Release 27th December 2020
Cornwall's 21 Short Mat Bowls clubs who have met the English Short Mat Bowls Association's (ESMBA) 'Safe Club' status must now work to more stringent limitations on player numbers following Cornwall being moved into Tier 2 restrictions from Boxing Day.
Approved clubs can now offer the following
Singles matches between two affiliated members from different households and support bubbles may play on each rink mat, or
Affiliated members from family and support bubbles can play in an approved pairs format on each rink mat.
Supervised bowling for affiliated members under 18 and/or Disability specific short mat bowls is allowed to continue to operate.
ESMBA Insurance Scheme
Shortly before Christmas a letter jointly signed the ESMBA's Insurance partner and the ESMBA Chairman was published on the National Governing Bodies website outlining changes to the club insurance scheme from next years policy renewal.
The fundamental change seemingly being that there will be an expectation that all members of an individual club register with the ESMBA regardless of whether they compete in organised competition or not. This is a clear change from the current policy terms which state that Club Socal Members are covered to the same extent as a playing member.
With 100's of local bowlers not having registered for the current season this change will go some way to helping the ESMBA recover some of the lost revenues from diminished player registrations.
