CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
NEWS RELEASE 24 March 2019

COUNTY FINALS
Last weekend the County Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours titles were contested at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club.  

On Saturday the Singles was played during the morning with Callum Beale (Withiel) taking the title defeating Peter Hore (Holmans) 11-9 in the final.  The full results were
Quarter Finals - David Balow (Marazion) 6-8 Peter Hore; Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) 11-10 John Worton (St Newlyn East); Des Pengelly (Landrake) 8-7 Treve Pollard (Holmans); Keith Matthews (Blisland) 6-11 Callum Beale.
Semi Finals - Peter Hore 11-4 Nigel Nicholls; Des Pengelly 5-14 Callum Beale

Saturday afternoon saw the Fours played with Rose Dyer, John Thomas, Kevin Williams & Mike Dyer (Newlyn Trinity) defeating Martin Boraston (Duloe), Gill Cawrse (Newlyn Trinity), Lynne Davey & Gary Davey (Landrake) 13-5 in the final.  The full results were

On Sunday the Pairs was played during the morning with Nathan Waters & Luke Jolly (Withiel) defeating Ray Jeffery & Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) 8-5 in the final.  The full results were

Sunday afternoon saw the Triples played with Dennis Shorthouse, Richard Kerr & Neil Gribble (Landrake) defeating Betty Temple-Smith, Max Burden & Keith Matthews (Blisland) 10-6 in the final.  The full results were

COUNTY LEAGUES
The County leagues draw to a conclusion this week and on Sunday the Bebbington Cup and League Shield competitions will be played at Carnmoggas.

The Bebbington Cup for the four area league winners will be contested by Newlyn Trinity Jowsters, Withiel Oaks, Landrake and Lanteglos A.  The League Shield for Division One winners will be contested by St Ives (St Eia),  Luxulyan Maroons, Saltash Kernow and Tintagel.

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
Following the conclusion of the Bebbington Cup on Sunday the County Champion of Champions will be played at Carnmoggas.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cornwall will be represented in the National Championship events being played this weekend at Daventry Indoor Bowling Club.

On Saturday Elise Daniell (Holmans), Gill Cawrse (Newlyn Trinity), Callum Beale (Withiel) & Peter Hore (Holmans) will compete in the National Mixed Fours and on Sunday Mark Payne & Howard McCormack (Penlee) will compete in the National Over 55 Pairs.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
Over the weekend of 5th - 7th April three local bowlers, Elise Daniell (Holmans), Peter Hore (Holmans) and Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) will compete in the Short Mat Players Tour Open Pairs and World Masters Singles in Belfast.

On Friday 5th the Pairs will see Elise and Peter team up whilst Nigel pairs with Cheshire based Stephen Proctor.  Over the remainder of the weekend they will be playing for individual honours in a field of 288 bowlers.  

The SMPT World Rankings are based on a rolling 12 event basis.  Nigel goes into the Singles event in a net second place in the Rankings on 787.63 points, 17.5 behind leader Jonathan Payne (BEL).  James Trott (ENG) is third on 767.13, Ed Sawbridge (ENG) is fourth on 760 and Stephen Gale (IOM) fifth on 756.75.  Peter has 407.75 points and Elise 316.63 points.

In the season Order of Merit table Nigel sits in eighth place with 449 points, 92 behind leader Ed Sawbridge.  Peter is 26th with 295.50 points and Elise is 43rd with 236.25 points.
