| | CCSMBA NEWS RELEASE 11 April 2016 National Championships Over the past two weekend ESMBA National Championship titles have been contested at Church Gresley Indoor Bowling Club in Derbyshire with Cornwall well represented. On Saturday 2 April Eilse Daniell (Holmans), Gillian Cawrse (Lostwithiel), Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) & Peter Hore (Holmans) took part in the Mixed Fours. The team came through the group stages top of Group 7 with 5 points after drawing 5-5 with Wendy Ford, Sam Ford, Sue Hollis & Mark Hollis (Hampshire), winning 9-5 against Joan Collier, Keith Honeyburn, Bobbie Whitburn & Barry Whitburn (Dorset) and 11-4 against Ryan Knight, Vicky Knight, Molly Knight & Jake Atrill (Gloucestershire). In the last 16 Cornwall won comfortably 15-2 against Greg Wade, Peggy May, John Wade, Joan Wade (Essex) before defeat in the Quarter Finals 6-7 to Babs Morokutti, Jean Herson, Del Coates, Nigel Reed (Essex). Thursday 7th saw the Singles contested with Karen Watson (Saltash), Nigel Nicholls & Elise Daniell taking part. Nigel won his Group with wins against Bob Naylor (Wiltshire) 9-7, Jaime Foster (Norfolk) 10-8 and Callum Goodman (Hampshire) 13-10. In the last 32 Nigel met Darren Stanford (Hertfordshire) and won 13-5. In the last 16 Richard Rose (Worcestershire) was defeated 11-6. Nigel's day cam to an end in the Quarter Finals with a 8-9 defeat to Michael Rice (Suffolk). Karen won her first game against Martin Chant (Dorset) 12-6 but followed up with defeats to Steve Proctor (Cheshire) 5-14 and Steve Killington (Essex) 7-14 to miss the cut into the knock out stages. Elise lost all three group games, 5-12 against Robert Elmore (Cambridgeshire), 5-14 against Ed Sawbridge (Northamptonshire) and 5-14 against David White (Hampshire) Friday 8th the Pairs was contested with Martin Boraston (East Taphouse) & Gary Davey (Landrake); Mike Dyer (Newlyn Trinity) & Kevin Williams (Porthleven); Peter Hore & Karen Watson competing. Peter & Karen started came through the Group stages unbeaten with wins against Bob Cousins & Colin Sharp (Suffolk) 9-6, Martin Tubb & Terry Alexander (Hampshire) 10-5 and Ryan & Geoff Knight (Gloucestershire) 8-7. In the Last 32 they met Paul Knight & Arnie Jaffe (Buckinghamshire) winning 13-6. Last 16 opponents were Chris Weston & Chris Hopkins (Northamptonshire) with a 9-6 win resulting. Quarter Final opponents were Alex Clay & Sam Harvey (Dorset) who defeated the Cornwall pairing 9-10. Martin & Gary recovered from a heavy 2-16 first game defeat to Thelma Hopkins & Leigh Hall (Northants) with wins against Craig Burgess & Mitchell Young (Essex) 7-5 and Ellan & Ivan Lunn (Derbyshire) 14-8 to take second in the group. In the last 32 they were defeated 6-13 by West Yorkshire's Kevin Siddle & Darren Cookson Mike & Kevin drew there first game 10-10 against Kevin Watson & Steven Lamb (Norfolk) and won 11-7 against Paul Knight & Arnie Jaffe but lost out on qualification for the knock outs on shot difference after a 5-9 defeat against Graham Stubbs & David Smith (Humberside). On Saturday 9th the Fours was contested with David Studden (Holmans), Percy Tripp (Newlyn Trinity), Gill Cawrse & Nigel Nicholls; Elise Daniell, Dennis Shorthouse (Landrake), Neil Gribble (Landrake) & Peter Hore representing Cornwall. David, Percy, Gillian & Nigel came through the group stages as group runners up after a 3-4 defeat against Wendy Ford, Tony Jepp, Jim Wood & Ian Ford (Hampshire), an 8-7 win against James Clarke, Danny Langdon, David Newsome & Roger Ellis (North Yorkshire) and draw 5-5 against Carol Hawkins, Keith Hawkins, Barry Keirle & Martin Cowlin (Somerset). They lost in the last 32 to Chris Jeans, Neil Middleton, James Scoins & Celia Jeans (Somerset) 5-8. Elise, Dennis, Neil & Peter were undefeated in Group 4 with wins against Robert Edwards, Terry Osgood, Mark Jones & Sunit Kuntrom (Surrey) 9-7, Alister Melville, David Scott, John Thomson & Paul Melville (Northamptonshire) 11-9 and Mikey George, Morgan Warnes, Jamie Foster & Neil Davidson (Norfolk) 10-4. They lost in the last 32 to Gill Johnson, Pete Thorne, Carole Preece & Stewart Minchew (Gloucestershire) 3-8. The Championships concluded on Sunday 10th when the Triples was contested with Elise Daniell, Nick Truscott (Holmans) & Peter Hore (Holmans); Sandra Worton, John Worton & Chris Roberts (Ladock); Rose Dyer (Newlyn Trinity), Mike Dyer & Kevin Williams; David Studden, Gillian Cawrse & Nigel Nicholls representing Cornwall. David, Gillian & Nigel came through the Group stages unbeaten with wins against Marc Bourne, Tony Crowley & Tony Kilgour (Worcestershire) 13-2, Sandra Hopkins, Fred Hopkins & John Beckford (Dorset) 10-5 & John Rawlings, Sue Stephenson & Charles Stephenson (Humberside) 18-2. In the last 32 they et Terry Osgood, Robert Edwards & Del Johns (Surrey) winning 11-4. In the last 16 they met Nigel Willard, John Turner & Melvin Woods (Norfolk) losing 4-17. Rose, Mike & Kevin qualified for the knock out stages with second in their group after winning 8-5 against Marie Kitchener, Ellen Lunn & Ivan Lunn (Derbyshire), 10-6 against Andy Jones, Janet Pearson & Paul Williamson (West Yorkshire) and a 5-6 defeat against Jaime Foster, Robert Lamb & Jason Woods (Norfolk). In the last 32 they lost to Nigel Willard, John Turner & Melvin Woods 7-9. Elise, Nick & Peter started with a win against Gill Johnson, Carole Preece & Stewart Minchew (Gloucestershire) 7-5 but defeats to David Hunt, Gavin Wood & Alec Martin (East Sussex) 6-10 and Kerry Greenacre,, Keith Cooke & Selwyn Goldsmith (Norfolk) 4-11 saw them fail to progress from the group stages, Sandra, John & Chris started with defeat to Paul Pomeroy, Jame Trott & Mike Ivings (Devon) 3-10. The second game against Karen Hall, Margaret Hall & Michael Hall (Dorset) ended in an 8-5 win before defeat in the final group game to Tim Rycraft, Robert Berry & Michael Doorey 5-7 saw them also fail to qualify. TLH National Top Club Cornwall provide 3 of the 16 teams competing in the Torquay Leisure Hotels National Top Club competition this weekend. 2014 winners Holmans are joined by teams from Treviscoe and Truro for the weekend long competition on the English Riviera. | | | | | | |
