COUNTY SINGLES
Over the weekend 56 bowlers competed in the County Singles qualification competition at Fowey Leisure Centre.
On Saturday 30 bowlers competed split into 7 groups. Group One was determined by a repeat of one of the Semi Final matches at the recent National Singles Qualifiers between Karen Watson (Treviscoe) and Elise Daniell (Holmans) with Karen winning 13-8 on this occasion to finish the group stages with 6 pts +18 shots. Paul Spencer (Wadebridge) recorded two wins and a draw to claim Group Two with 5 +11. Ken Horrell (Withiel) was unbeaten in Group Three finishing with 6 +33, the highest score of the day. David Topliff (St Minver) recorded two wins and a draw in Group Four to finish on 5 +11. Terry Trevorrow (Hayle) claimed the best runners up spot with 4 +16. Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) claimed a tight Group Five with 5 +4. Group Six went to an unbeaten Martin Boraston (Liskeard) with 6 +21. Group Seven proved the closest of the day going down to the last game when a previously unbeaten David Hickey (Helston) lost to Brian Webb (Treviscoe) leaving Gary Davey (Liskeard) to go through on 4 +21.
In the knockout round Karen Watson defeated David Topliffe 17-5. Martin Boraston was a 14-9 winner against Terry Trevorrow. Nigel Nicholls needed an extra end to overcome Paul Spencer 13-11 and Ken Horrell claimed the final spot at finals day with a 14-8 win over Gary Davey.
On Sunday 26 bowlers competed split into 6 groups. Group One went the way of David Studden (Illogan) with the weekend’s best score of 6 +39. In Group Two Norman Ward’s (Withiel) 13-12 win against Brian Wakeley (Ladock) saw him edge through with 4 +3 ahead of Wakeley’s club mate Chris Roberts who recorded a 14-7 win in his final game to finish on 4 +2. Sue Ashton’s (Saltash) 11-8 win against Joe Dixon (Withiel) in the final game of Group Three saw Ashton through with 4 +3. Group Four produced two qualifiers with Graham Reeves (Saltash) unbeaten on 6 +16 and Gerald Fisher (Illogan) taking a runners up spot with 4 +30. Keith Matthews (Blisland) recorded 6 +37 to take Group Five. Peter Hore (Holmans) took Group Six with 4 +14 despite defeat to Richard Brown (Illogan) 13-14 in the final group game. Brown claimed the second runners up spot with a final score of 4 +8.
The knockout round saw Graham Reeves defeat Norman Ward 14-6. Peter Hore edged past Keith Matthews (9-7). Susan Ashton defeated Gerald Fisher 9-8 and the final spot going to David Studden who defeated Illogan club mate Richard Brown 12-7.
The eight qualifiers will return to Fowey on Saturday 17 March 2012 to compete in the finals.
COUNTY TRIPLES
On Saturday (10 December) 37 teams will compete in the County Triples Qualification Competition for the eight places available in the finals on Sunday 18 Match 2012. Play gets underway at 0900.
NATIONAL PAIRS and TRIPLES
On Sunday (11 December) the National Qualification rounds for the National Pairs and Triples will be contested at Ladock Village Hall with play getting under way at 0830.
