NEWS RELEASE – 13 November 2011
INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Saturday Cornwall travelled to Plymouth to take on regional leaders Devon in the penultimate game of the 2011-12 ESMBA Inter County Championship group stages.
Cornwall’s Premier Team, who recorded their first victory of the season last time out against Dorset struggled from the outset against a strong Devon team. In the first session, Cornwall recorded just one point, a draw in the Singles for Peter Hore (12-12). The second session proved to be Cornwall’s most successful claiming a share of the points with wins for Roy Christophers, Gillian Cawrse and Percy Tripp (13-5) in the Triples and Elise Daniell, Bob Williams, Linda Martin and Gerald Fisher (10-9) in the Fours. At the halfway stage the score read Devon 11 points 97 shots Cornwall 5 points 76 shots.
A win for Nicholas Truscott & Karen Watson (12-10) in the afternoon Pairs proved to be Cornwall’s only points in the afternoon session as they crashed to a heavy defeat with a final score of Devon 33 points 197 shots Cornwall 7 points 134 shots. This result means that Cornwall will travel to Dorset on January 8th needing a strong performance to finish third in the South West group.
