CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION -

INTER AREA LEAGUE
On Saturday the Inter Area League concluded with the third of three match days played at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club.  The format sees teams with a minimum of 10 players from each area play across the four disciplines of Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours with each area playing each other on each of the match days.

West started the day ahead on 31 points with Central second on 28, East third on 23 and North on 14.  

Session One saw Central take the overall lead with three wins and a draw against North to move onto 35 points.  West lost the session to East by a scoreline of 3-5 to leave West on 34 and East on 28.

Session Two saw West retake the lead overall with a clean sweep of four wins against North to move onto 42 points.  Central took three wins against East to leave Central a point off the lead on 41 and East on 30.

Session Three saw the two title contenders head to head.  Central won the Singles by a single shot, the Pairs by 5 shots, the Fours by 5 shots and the Triples drew.  This gave Central 7 points from the session to finish on 48 points +61 shots over the three rounds.  West finished second on 43 points +66 shots.  In the session's other match up East took a clean sweep against North to finish on 38 points +74 shots with North finishing on 15 points -201 shots.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The first National Championship titles of the season will be decided this coming weekend with the National Mixed Fours and Over 55's Pairs at Solihull Indoor Bowling Club.  

On Saturday the Mixed Fours sees two teams from Cornwall,  Elise Daniell (Holmans), Sandra Worton (St Newlyn East), Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) & Peter Hore (Holmans) and Mark Slack, Karen Burton, Caroline Trubshaw and Alan Trubshaw (Duloe).  On Sunday the Over 55's Pairs sees four teams from Cornwall, Austen Runnals (Luxulyan) & Steve Smith (St Newlyn East), Andy Jiggens & Rob D'Agostino (Kensey Vale), Jon Read & Martin Boraston (Duloe) and Sandra Worton (St Newlyn East) & Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity).  Play starts at 0900 on both days with a round robin competition followed by a knockout.

LOCAL LEAGUES
The local evening leagues are drawing to a conclusion across the county.

In the Western Area Newlyn Trinity need just 1 point from a possible 18 from their last three matches to secure the Western Area title.  Their final matches are on the 20th away to Penlee Pirates, 27th Home of Porthleven Fisherfolk and 4th March away to Penzance Dodos.  Second place is currently held by Helston Penrose on 51 points with Holmans third on 50 points, both teams have two matches remaining.  Penrose face Penlee Larrigan at home on 27th Feb and travel to Penlee Pirates on 5th March.  Holmans complete their fixtures away to Penzance Dodos on 19th Feb and at home to Helston St Johns on 7th March.  In Division One St Ives lead by 8 points with 45 points with two matches to play the first away to Helston Grylls on 22nd Feb before completing their fixtures at home to second placed St Keverne An Gof on 28th Feb.  An Gof have three games to play, the first of which is on the 23rd Feb at home to Helston Wendron.  They then play away to St Ives on the 28th Feb before completing their fixtures at home to Marazion Choughs on 8th March.  Marazion Blackbirds are a point further behind in third place.  The result of their match against Marazion Choughs on 15th Feb is not known at the time of writing, their remaining fixtures are against Redruth at home on 29th Feb and away to Helston Grylls on 7th March.

The Central area concluded this week with two points separating the top two, St Newlyn East Phoenix who conclude their fixtures away to Ladock on 20th February and Withiel Oaks who finish at home to St Agnes Choughs on 22nd February.

In the East area Duloe are 13 points ahead of Saltash Blues with Callington Eagles a further 3 points behind.  Duloe's remaining fixtures are at home to Calstock on 21st Feb and away to Landrake on 26th Feb.  Saltash Blues have an outstanding fixture at home to Landrake and away matches against Callington Eagles on 19th Feb and Calstock on 26th Feb.  Callington Eagles other remaining fixture is away to Dobwalls Blues on 29th Feb.  In Division One Dobwalls Reds lead Saltash Whites by 9 points.  Dobwalls Reds have three matches remaining, an outstanding fixture away to Torpoint , away to Saltash Kernow 2 on 20th Feb and home to Callington Kestrels on 26th Feb.  Saltash Whites remaining fixtures are at home to Torpoint on 21st Feb and away to Saltask Kernow 2 on 25th Feb.

In the North Area, which is played to a different scoring system Blisland lead the way and need 3 points from a possible 12 from there last four games, away to Lanteglos Beavers on 20th Feb, home to Lanteglos Bobcats on 20th Feb, Home to Lanteglos Beavers on 27th Feb and away to Lanteglos Bobcats on 28th Feb.  The matches on 20th Feb count for 2 points each and those on 27th and 28th each count for 4 points with aggregate bonus points up for grabs.  Boscastle are second 9 points adrift and have three matches remaining, each counting for a possible four points.  On 19th Feb they face Wadebridge at home with a 7 shot deficit to overhaul for the aggregate score. On the 21st Feb a visit to Lanteglos to face the Bobcats with the 29 shot deficit from the home match.  Boscastle's final match is away to Lanteglos Beavers on 5th March with a 21 shot advantage to defend.
