Short Mat Players Tour
Four bowlers from Cornwall travelled to York over the weekend to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour British Open at the York & District Indoor Bowling Club.

Nigel Nicholls, Elise Daniell and Peter Hore all progressed from the group stages into the Cup competition but all three failed to progress beyond the first round of the knockout stages.

Nigel Nicholls finished 2nd in Group 21.  Starting with a defeat to group winner James Rutledge (IRE) 3-13 , Nigel recorded four wins in the remaining group games against Simon Kamar (SCO) 22-2, Roger Green (ENG) 15-9, Robert Mumford (ENG) 23-1 and Steve Puttock (ENG) 13-12.  In the first round of the knockout competition Nigel lost to Andrew Jones (WAL) 13-3.  In the world rankings Nigel has moved up one place to 9th with 709.5 points.  In the current seasons Order of Merit standings Nigel lies in 7th place with 355.5 points and occupies the third out of four places 

Elise Daniell finished 2nd in Group 25.  After a loss to Simon Pridham (CYP) 6-14 Elise won her three remaining group games against Rodney Knight (ENG) 21-3, Keith Lackford (ENG) 13-11 and Darren Brown (ENG) 13-6.  In the first round of the knockout competition Elise lost to finalist James John-Davies (WAL) 5-14.  Elise has dropped 4 places in the rankings to 40th with 417.25 points. Elise moves up 88 places in the Order of Merit to 58th with 157.75 points.

Peter Hore topped Group 29 with an unbeaten 15 points after recording wins against Maria Vandermaesen (BEL) 19-3, Annabelle Almond (ENG) 14-8, Marc Miskimming (SCO) 13-8, Pauline White (ENG) 17-6 and Sue Lawley (SCO) 12-6.  In the first round of the knockout competition Peter lost to Aaron Clare (ENG) 15-8.  Peter has moved up 4 places in the rankings to 33rd with 444.25 points. Peter moves up 90 places in the Order of Merit to 57th with 160.75 points.

Martyn Featherstone finished 4th in Group 27 and progressed through to the Plate Competition.  Martyn's competition started with a defeat to Bob Naylor (SCO) 6-10  A 21-5 win against Luisa Greenhalgh (POR) followed before a heavy 1-20 defeat to eventual winner Gary McNabb (NIR).  A win then followed against Peter Collins (ENG) 14-13 before rounding off the group games with a 6-16 defeat to Martin Simcock (ENG).  In the first round of the Plate competition Martyn lost to the eventual winner Lee Toleman (ENG) 5-16.  With fewer competition appearances Martyn sits in 309th place in the rankings with 68 points.  Martyn is 253rd in the Order of Merit with 36 points.

The next Short Mat Players Tour competition is the English Masters in Chelmsford over the weekend of the 11th and 12th February.

Inter Area League
This Sunday will see the final round of Inter Area League matches played at Carnmoggas.  West currently lead with 33 points +55 shots, Central have 29 +52, North 17 -47 and East 17 -60.  A maximum of 24 points is available to any area across the course of the day's play when the areas will all play each other.

County Triples
On Saturday 21st January, 23 teams compete in the County Triples to be played at Carnmoggas.

Inter County Championship
On Sunday 22nd January Cornwall's Premier Team will host Hampshire at Carnmoggas in the final group match of the 2022/23 season.  Cornwall lie 1 point ahead of their opponents and will be looking for a minimum of 20 out of the 40 points available to avoid a possible relegation match against the bottom team in group two of the Premier One section of the ESMBA Inter County Championship.
