Cornwall County Short Mat Bowling Association News Release - 17 September 2017 County Team & Inter County Championship On Sunday the County Team Trials were held at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club with Team Manager Gill Cawrse trying a number of combinations of players across the four sessions of play. With a number of players unavailable for Sundays session, the team practice session on Saturday will give another opportunity to fine tune the team ahead of Sunday's match away to Somerset at Donyatt Indoor Bowling Club. Somerset's Premier Team started the season with a 27-13 win away to Devon whilst there A Team lost 15-25 to Devon. This weekend Devon travel to Dorset. Short Mat Players Tour Irish Open Over the weekend three bowlers travelled to Belfast to compete in the Short Mat Players Tour Irish Open. Elise Daniell topped Group Ten with 10 points after recording three wins, a draw and a loss. In the Cup Knockout Elise lost in the last 64 to Nathan Haire 4-15. Elise has jumped nearly 100 places in the SMPT rankings to 117th with 169 points and 76th in the Order of Merit with 83 points. Nigel Nicholls finished second in Group Thirteen after recording four wins and a loss. In the Cup Knockout Nigel reached with last 32 with a win over Alan Browne 12-9 before defeat to Martin Trainor 6-7. Nigel has moved into the top 20 in the rankings holding 19th place with 520.50 points and 6th in the Order of Merit with 197 points. Three wins in Group Five was only enough to see Peter Hore finish fourth in the group and take a place in the Plate Knockout where he was knocked out in the last 64 by James Shaw 2-8. Peter holds 41st place in the with 328 points and 122nd on the Order of Merit with 52 points.
