| | CCSMBA NEWS RELEASE NEWS RELEASE 13 November 2016 INTER COUNTY v DEVON On Sunday Cornwall travelled to Exeter to face Devon in the ESMBA Inter County Championship. The Premier team started strongly winning three of the four games in the first session. In Singles Nigel Nicholls and Peter Hore won 11-8 and 13-12 respectively. In Pairs David Balow & David Studden won 13-10 and John Worton & Karen Watson lost 9-13. Cornwall extended the lead in the second session taking seven of the eight points on offer. In Triples Richard Brown, Martin Boraston & Gillian Cawrse won 14-9 and Mike Dyer, Bob Banks & Kevin Williams won 14-10. In Fours Dennis Shorthouse, Richard Kerr, Nicholas Truscott & Neil Gribble won 12-10 and Elise Daniell, Percy Tripp, Tom Westlake and Luke Jolly drew 11-11. At the halfway point in the match Cornwall led 13 point to 3 and 97 shots to 83. The third session saw the game points shared with Devon taking the bonus points in both Singles and Pairs. In the Single Nicholls won 14-12 with Hore losing 7-18. In Pairs Worton & Watson won 13-10 and Balow and Studden lost 9-14. The match scores moved onto Cornwall 17 points 140 shots Devon 11 points 137 shots. The final session saw Cornwall take three wins out of four and bonus points in both disciplines. In Triples wins for Cawrse 17-10 and Williams 14-5 saw a clean sweep of points collected over the day. In Fours Jolly won 14-5 whilst Gribble lost 7-10 The final match score Devon 13 points 167 shots Cornwall 27 points 192 shots. In the days other match Dorset defeated Somerset at Donyatt IBC by 23 points to 17. Dorset now top the table with 101 points from 5 matches with Cornwall a point behind in second from 5. Devon have 95 points from 4 matches and Somerset are 31 adrift at the bottom with 64 points from 4. In Singles Chris Roberts and Ronald Thomas won 13-8 and 17-7 respectively. In Pairs Raymond Jeffery & Keith Williams won 15-11 and Betty Temple-Smith & Max Burden lost 9-16. Cornwall took a further six out of eight points on offer in the second session. In Triples Lynne Davey, Alan Holden & Gary Davey and Graham Ford, Graham Reeves & David Topliffe won 18-9 & 16-6 respectively. In the Fours Henry Kendall, Sandra Worton, Mike Webster & Keith Matthews won 13-5 whilst Meg Horrell, Brenda Sleep, Tony Jago & Ken Horrell lost 4-10. At the halfway point Cornwall led 12 points to 4 and 107 shots to 84. Game points were shared in the third session with two wins apiece. In Singles Roberts won 15-5 and Thomas lost 8-17. In Pairs Jeffery & Williams won 20-9 and Temple-Smith & Burden lost 10-11. The bonus points were secured by Cornwall in both disciplines giving Cornwall a 20 points to 8 lead in the match with a session to play. Devon took an advantage on game points in the final session. For Cornwall Davey and Topliffe losing 9-10 and 10-14 respectively in the Triples. In the Fours Matthews won 13-7 and Horrell drew 12-12. Cornwall took the bonus points in both disciplines to win the match by 27 points and 202 shots to Devon's 13 points and 157 shots. In the days other game Somerset defeated Dorset 22 points to 28 leaving Cornwall 24 points ahead although Somerset have a match in hand. Somerset host Devon at Donyatt on the same day. NATIONAL PAIRS AND TRIPLES QUALIFIERS On Saturday the first of two days of National Championship were contested at Carnmoggas. In the Quarter Finals of the Pairs Martin Boraston & Gary Davey defeated John Worton & Chris Roberts 14-8. Luke Jolly & Tom Westlake won 13-3 against Alan Holden & Des Pengelly. Mike Dyer & Kevin Williams were 8-6 winners against Graham Reeves & Peter Skinner. Peter Hore & Karen Watson needed an extra end to defeat Rose Dyer & Keith Williams 12-11. The Semi Finals saw Jolly & Westlake win 10-4 against Boraston & Davey. Hore & Watson won 10-7 against Dyer & Williams. Hore and Watson won the final against Jolly & Westlake 8-6. Boraston & Davey took third place defeating Dyer & Williams 12-4. In the Triples Semi Finals David Studden, Peter Hore & Karen Watson defeated Dianne Shorthouse, Des Pengelly & Alan Holden 13-1. Ray Jeffery, Gillian Cawrse & Nigel Nicholls defeated Elise Daniell, Tom Westlake & Luke Jolly 9-4. Nicholls won the final against Watson 8-5 and Holden won the third place match against Jolly 8-7. BRITISH ISLES CHAMPIONSHIPS This weekend (19th & 20th November) Cornwall's England Squad members will compete in the British Isles A Team Championships in Bromsgrove. In the Team Championship Elise Daniell & Nigel Nicholls team up with Dave Lamb (Norfolk) and Anthony Fautley (Essex). Peter Hore is joined by Peter Fautley (Essex), Jamie Foster (Norfolk) & Peter Roberts (Cheshire). Tom Westlake plays with Nicky Bartlett (Kent), Stephen Holdsworth (Gloucestershire) & Callum Beale (Northants). Karen Watson & Luke Jolly team up with Ollie Hipkiss (Gloucestershire) & Del Johns (Surrey). Peter Hore doubles up in the Individual Fours where he will be joined by Gillian Cawrse, James Scoins (Somerset) & Thomas Bright (Wiltshire). David Studden plays in the Pairs with Emily Thomas (Dorset) COUNTY LEAGUES The county league program is well under way with early front runners being established in each area. COMING UP Whilst the Counties England Squad members are away at the British Isles Championships this weekend Inter Area League matches between North & West and Central & East will be played at Carnmoggas on Sunday.
