| | CCSMBA NEWS RELEASE 20 March 2016 World Championships Peter Hore returns to Cornwall after this weekends Short Mat Bowls World Championships as World Short Mat Bowls Pairs Champion after combining with West Midlands Christopher Willies to lift the title winning 11 out of 12 games over the three days of the championships. On Friday they started with a 16-8 win against Sweden which they followed up with a comprehensive 26-5 win over Italy. The only defeat of the weekend came in the third game, losing 11-13 to Wales on the last end of the game, The pair bounced back to finish Friday's games with a 16-7 win over Canada. Saturday saw close wins against Scotland 13-11 and reigning British Isles champions Ireland 14-12. A comprehensive 22-7 win against Norway finished Saturdays play. On Sunday morning wins against Belgium 17-7, India 18-9 and Germany 18-7 sealed top spot in Group A on shot difference and a place in the knockout stages. Group A standings 1st Eng 18 points +85 shots, 2nd Swe 18 +84, 3rd Ire 16 +136, 4th Wal 14 +41, 5th Sco 14 +16, 6th Bel 8 -19, 7th Ita 7 -53, 8th Ind 6 -33, 9th Can 5 -69, 10th Nor 4 -77, 11th Ger 0 -111. The Semi Finals saw Peter and Chris up against the Ireland 'B' pairing of David Doherty & Norman Rutledge and claim a 13-7 win to move into the final game where they met the England 'B' pairing of Stephen Burrows & Adam Smith who defeated defeated Sweden's Jonas Hager & Victor Andersson 15-9 in the second semi final. Peter & Chris got a great start in the final picking up 3 on the first end and 1 on the second to lead 4-0. Stephen and Adam picked up 2 on the third end. Five consecutive scoring ends for Peter & Chris put them in control leading 10-2 after eight ends. They conceded 2 on the ninth and 1 on the tenth end before picking up 1 on the eleventh end to lead 11-5 with four ends to go. Another 2 were conceded on the 12 end before picking up 1's on the thirteenth and fourteenth ends to secure victory 13-7. World Short Mat Bowls Champions Christopher Willies & Peter Hore. Peter's club mate David Studden also competed at the championships in the Triples alongside Nicky Bartlett (Kent) & Barry Hedges (Essex) as England 'B'. A 10-9 win against Ireland was followed up with an 18-7 win against Sweden. The unbeaten run came to an end in the last game of the day with defeat to Belgium 6-10. Sunday mornings final group game saw an emphatic 30-4 win over Norway. The results left the England Triple in second place in Group B. Ireland 'A' won the final 16-9 and England 'B' were comfortable winners of the third place match 20-3. Forthcoming Events This weekend the World Championships take place at the Leigh Indoor20- Sports Centre in Manchester with two Cornish bowlers amongst the 20 man England Squad. Peter Hore & David Studden, both of the Holmans club, will line up in the competition to be played over three day from Friday to Sunday. On Sunday the largest single gathering of bowlers during the season takes place at Carnmoggas with 128 bowlers, 32 from each area, taking part in the Inter Area Rinks competition. Cornwall's World Championship representatives Peter Hore & David Studden. The World Singles title was claimed by Ireland's Raymond Stubbs who defeated Sweden's Dick Almen 16-5 in the final. Ireland also claimed the Fours with DJ Wilson, Eddie Campbell, Jonny Wilson & Andrew Lecky defeating England's Antony Fautley, AJ Brown, Gareth Davies & Jake Atrill 8-6 in the final. Inter Area Competition Back in Cornwall the Inter Area Competition was played at Carnmoggas on Sunday with the West Area coming out on top. In the Triples Rose Dyer, Mike Dyer & John Thomas (Newlyn) defeated Colin Edwards, Jean Welch & John James (Marazion) and in the Champion of Champions Gerald Fisher (Illogan) beat Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn).
