CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
NEWS RELEASE 17 May 2015
The main season may be over but the volunteers who ensure the CCSMBA functions throughout the year are busy preparing for the visit of the England squad to Carnmoggas to play Cornwall on Sunday 20th September to mark the start of the CCSMBA's 25th anniversary season.
The Association has enjoyed arguably one of its most successful seasons, topping the South West group of the Inter County Championship, a National Championship win for four of the counties youngest bowlers; Karen Watson, Ed Dyer, Luke Jolly & Tom Westlake and Holmans following up last years win in the ESMBA/TLH Top Club with the runners up spot this year. Four players from the county have been in the England national squad; Peter Hore, Elise Daniell, Nigel Nicholls & Dave Studden. Several players have also competed in the Short Mat Players tour events as far afield as Sweden.
The England team travelling to Cornwall for a squad weekend is a strong indication of how well regarded the county now is on the national scene.
Success however has had a significant impact on the operating costs of the CCSMBA and the Association is seeking financial support to further develop the sport in the county and to at least in part meet some of the costs of playing in national competitions, in particular travel. The competition is under way with the first two weeks fixtures completed.
In the West Ladock 2 are the early pace setters with two wins out of two.
In the East Dobwalls and Tintagel Knights are unbeaten after two games but Blisland B lead the way on shot difference but have played one more game.
