INTER AREA MATCH
On Sunday (12 February) 128 bowlers from 28 clubs, including a number bowling at the county venue for the first time, competed at Fowey Community Leisure Centre in annual Inter Area Match which sees teams of 32 bowlers representing each of the county league areas for the Kernow Cup.
The first session saw Central take a clean sweep of wins against North whilst West claimed 3 out of 4 against East. The second session saw North and West take 2 wins apiece from their head to head whilst Central extended their lead with 3 wins out of 4 against East. With each rink of 4 players having played one game each Central lead with 14 points, West had 10 points and North ahead of East on shot difference, both on 4 points.
The second round of games, played out over two sessions saw North claim 10 points to East’s 6 in their head to head and West claim the same score line against Central to leave the scores after everyone had played two games, West and Central 20 points, North 14 and East 10.
Session Five proved crucial to the outcome of the match with Central taking a 6-2 advantage over East and West dropped points to North 3-5. In the final session Central secured the 6 points needed for overall victory against North whilst West came up just short, claiming 7 out of 8 points against the East.
To highlight the competitive nature of the day only 4 of the 32 rinks won all three games with another managing 2 wins and a draw to stay unbeaten. Joe Coups (Illogan), David Balow, Don Falck (Marazion) & Nicholas Truscott (Holmans) playing for West 6 points +38 shots; Sandra Worton, Arthur Tubb, John Worton & Edward Wakeley (Ladock) playing for Central 6+31; Richard Brown, Barry Kessell, Gerald Fisher & Linda Martin (Illogan) playing for West 6 +26; Joe Dixon (Withiel), David Giles, Betty Temple Smith & Phil Hicks (Luxulyan) playing for Central 6 +6; Jean Welch (Marazion), Malcolm Nankervis, Fred Spurr (Centenary) & John James (Marazion) 5 +3. Only three rinks failed to record a point during the days play.

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
On Saturday (18 January) Cornwall’s A Team continue their defence of the ESMBA Inter County Championship Consolation Competition title when they return to Bristol to face Oxfordshire in the Quarter Finals of this year’s competition.
ENGLAND WEEKEND
Over the weekend Cornwall’s England squad members Peter Hore and Karen Watson travelled to Bristol to take on a Southern select team. The England team recorded a 104 points to 52 win with Peter winning 6 games over the two days, including 4 out of 4 playing with Devon’s James Trott and various other players in Triples. Karen won 4 games over the weekend. Both however missed out on selection for next month’s World Championships. Nigel Nicholls and Elise Daniell featured in the Southern Select Team.
