Withiel Oaks established a strong position at the top of the West area table on Friday night with a 21-13 win at Newlyn against Nomads, also taking the bonus points for the aggregate win over two legs.  Of their three remaining matches Withiel Oaks only face one of the top 4 teams, Drifters, and now look favourites to take the divisional title with a game in hand over the three teams behind.

The second phase is underway featuring the top two teams from each division in the first phase.  Wanderers recorded a 38-8 win over Tintagel Heralds on Thursday and in the weeks other game Tintagel Heralds defeated Boscastle Bees 21-14.

On Sunday 24 July 65 bowlers took the opportunity to try out the CCSMBA’s new playing venue and mats at Fowey Community Leisure Centre where County Competitions and Inter County matches will be staged during the 2011/12 season, which gets underway over the weekend of 17 and 18 September with the County Team trials and practice days followed by the first Inter County Championship match on Sunday 25 September when Devon will visit Fowey.

Cornwall County Short Mat Bowls Association celebrates one year to go to the London 2012 Games

 

Cornwall County Short Mat Bowling Association (CCSMBA) is offering an opportunity for individuals or community group leaders to sample the sport of Short Mat Bowls as part of the London 2012 Open Weekend supported by BP – a series of sporting and cultural events taking place across the UK which will see hundreds of thousands of people participating in events to celebrate the ‘One Year to

Go’ countdown to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

 

On Sunday 24 July 2011 the CCSMBA will be hosting a ‘Come and Try’ session at the Association’s new venue for County Competitions at Fowey Community Leisure Centre from 1100 – 1500.  The event is open to all with experienced players and county officials on hand to offer advice.

 

The CCSMBA’s ‘Come and Try’ day is one of hundreds of other Open Weekend challenges – ranging from an outdoor screening of The Tate Movie in Trafalgar Square to a celebration of Jamaican culture in the centre of Birmingham. Full listings can be found at www.london2012.com/openweekend.
