CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLS ASSOCIATION
NEWS RELEASE – 1 August 2010
Summer League Update
The Hotshots team played themselves back into contention for the Western section of the CCSMBA Summer League with a 29-13 win at Holmans Bowling Club against table topping Nomads on Sunday evening.
The first four ends saw single shot scores with Hotshots claiming three to Nomads one. The following three ends saw the Hotshots take command of the game with scores of three, five and five to move into a 16-1 lead after seven ends, wiping out the deficit from the first leg played at Newlyn earlier in the season. Hotshots remained in control of the game holding a 28 – 6 lead on the night and 38 – 31 overall with three ends to play. Nomads however hit back claiming three on the 19th end and four on the 19th end to tie the aggregate score going into the last end. With both teams needing just a single shot to claim the aggregate win Nomads Skip Percy Tripp opted to play the lead role on the last end in a bid to ditch the jack which he achieved although the distance between jack and wood allowed a chance for either team to draw a winning bowl in the live area of the mat. Hotshots number three Karen Watson drew her first bowl within a foot of the dead line and adjusted her weight on her second bowl to draw past to within an inch of the line. Nomads stand in skip Mike Praed was unable to remove the bowl leaving the outcome of the aggregate result to be decided on a tight measure for shot which went the way of Hotshots by a matter of millimetres.
Hotshots move to within two points of Nomads in the league table with a game in hand. Hotshots Travel to Withiel Elms on Thursday 12th. Nomads face Withiel Oaks at home on Friday 13th with Hotshots playing there outstanding game against Luxulyan on the same night.
