NEWS RELEASE - 1 November 2009

INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Cornwall’s Short Mat Bowls team enjoyed mixed fortunes in the latest round of ESMBA Inter County Championship matches on Saturday (31 October) against Devon at the Isca Bowls Centre in Exeter.

The Premier Team, up against a Devon team containing five current and one former member of the England Squad, got off to the worst possible start losing all for games in the morning Singles and Pairs as Devon opened up an 8 point and 58 shot lead.  The second session proved to be Cornwall’s most successful of the match with 3 points scored by the Fours, a win for Roy Christophers, Graham Luke, Brian Wakeley and Chris Roberts (9-5) and a draw for Kath Goodman, Peter Sully, Phil Hicks and John Thomas (11-11).  Both Triples however suffered defeats.  At the halfway point Devon held a convincing 13 points 125 shots to 3 points 57 shots advantage.

The third session, the second for the Singles and Pairs saw Peter Hore record Cornwall’s only other points of the game with a well fought 14-12 win.  The final session, for Triples and Fours saw Devon take another clean sweep of wins to leave the final at Devon 35 points 244 shots Cornwall 5 points 123 shots.
