CORNWALL COUNTY SHORT MAT BOWLING ASSOCIATION
NEWS RELEASE - 2 June 2024

SUMMER LEAGUE
After two weeks of matches Blisland and Helston are emerging as the front runners in the East and West areas respectively.  In the East area Luxulyan Tigers and Luxulyan Apes have also both won 2 games out of two.  In the West area Helston are the only team with two wins out of two.

SHORT MAT PLAYERS TOUR
A number of local bowlers competed in Pairs competitions run by the Short Mat Players Tour over the weekend at the Falcon Indoor Bowling Club in Chelmsford. 

On Saturday, the Trevor Pay Pairs with 64 pairings entered, saw seven local bowlers involved.

Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) teamed up with East Sussex's Paul Seaman topping Group 2 with three wins to progress to the Cup competition.  They then enjoyed a good run in the knockouts winning the 1st round against Sylvia & Emily Poulter 13-4, 2nd round against Anthony & Pauline Friel 10-3 and Quarter Final against Mike Wright & Steve Puttock 11-4.  Their run ended in the Semi Finals with a 12-6 loss to Mitchell Young & Craig Burgess.

Elise Daniell (Holmans) teamed up with West Yorkshire's Keith Lackford and topped Group 6 with three wins to progress into the Cup competition.  They won 12-1 in the first round of the knockouts against Linda White & Joseph Peters before losing 10-3 to Mike Wright & Steve Puttock in the second round.

Caroline & Alan Trubshaw (Duloe) were second in Group 9 with two wins to progress into the Cup competition where they lost in the first round to Jonas Hager & Cecil Dilon 4-11.

Group 15 saw Mark Slack & Chris Page (Duloe) and Peter Hore (Holmans) teamed up with West Yorkshire's Daniel Sands drawn together.  The Duloe pairing took top spot with two wins and a draw, Peter and Daniel took second with a win and a draw.  Mark & Chris lost 7-10 to Bob & Carol Taylor in the first round of the Cup competition.  Peter & Daniel lost a high scoring game against Ed Sawbridge & Lee Watts 16-10 in the first round of the knockouts.

Sunday's Falcon Open Pairs again with 64 pairings entered saw three local bowlers involved.

Nigel Nicholls again teamed up with Paul Seaman in Group 8 from which they qualified for the Cup competition in second place with two wins.  Another good run in the knockouts saw them win 13-6 against Finn Aelid Zinder & Aege Strand Aarnes in the 1st round, 11-10 against Jonas Hager & Cecil Dillon in the second round, 11-4 against Stephen & Conan O'Neill in the Quarter Finals, 8-2 against Andrew & Kerry Scott in the Semi Finals.  The final was a rematch against the pairing who knocked them out in the Semi Final of Saturday's competition, Mitchell Young & Craig Burgess who were again victorious, winning this time by 8-2.

Elise Daniell & Peter Hore teamed up in Group 11 but didn't pick up any points and went into the Plate competition where they lost in the 1st round to Beverley Stevenson & Alan Hare 7-9.
