Cornwall Runners-up in Inter County Rinks

View this email in your browser Cornwall County Short Mat Bowling Association News Release - 28 January 2018 ESMBA Inter County Rinks On Sunday Cornwall's Premier Team competed in the ESMBA Inter County Rinks Finals at Daventry Indoor Bowling Club. Cornwall came through the group stages unbeaten with wins against Somerset, West Sussex and Surrey to set up a final against West Midlands. Cornwall started well in the final leading 16-13 after 4 ends and 22-18 after 6 ends.  West Midlands moved ahead by 31-25 after 9 ends going on to win 37-32. Cornwall were represented by Rose Dyer (Newlyn Trinity), Mike Dyer (Newlyn Trinity), Glynn Roy (Withiel), Graham Reeves (Saltash), Gary Davey (Landrake), Luke Jolly (Withiel), Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity), Peter Hore (Holmans), Chris Roberts (Ladock), Elise Daniell (Holmans), Dennis Shorthouse (Landrake), Callum Beale (Withiel), Gill Cawrse (Lostwithiel), Martin Boraston (East Taphouse), David Studden (Holmans), James Smith (Lostwithiel).  The Premier Team are back in action on the 18th February when they will face the winners of this weekends ICC Knockout Preliminary Round match between Essex and Herefordshire. Short Mat Players Tour English Masters Over the weekend of 10th & 11th February the Short Mat Players Tour English Masters will be played at the Falcon Bowling & Social Club, Chelmsford with a number of local bowlers entered.  With two ranking tournaments left this season Newlyn's Nigel Nicholls, winner of last months British Open, will be looking for another strong performance to retain top spot in the Order of Merit and a place in August's World Cup. Peter Hore selected for World Championships 

View this email in your browser Cornwall County Short Mat Bowling Association News Release - 14 January 2018 World Championships Peter Hore (Holmans) has been selected in the England Squad for the 2018 World Short Mat Bowls Council World Championships in Sweden where he will defend the Pairs won in 2016 with a new partner, Norfolk's Dave Lamb.  The championships take place over the weekend 16th - 18th March in Stromstad. ESMBA Open Singles On Saturday a number of local bowers competed in the ESMBA Open Singles in Tamworth. Four bowlers progressed from the group stages into the main knockout,  In the last 32 David Studden (Holmans) won 11-7 against Devon's Thomas Perris.  Elise Daniell (Holmans) lost 8-12 to Essex's Anthony Fautley.  Nigel Nicholls (Newlyn Trinity) lost 7-10 to Swede Christer Almen and Peter Hore (Holmans) won 12-3 against West Midland's Adam Easthope. The last 16 saw David Studden lose to West Midland's Malcolm Follis 8-12 and Peter Hore lose to Hampshire's Ben Pay. Inter Area League Locally on Sunday the final round of Inter Area League matches were played at Carnmoggas.  The results of the matches were Central 169 shots 14 points - West 175 shots 26 points and North 174 shots 16 points -  East 195 shots 24 points. Nigel's victory moves him into top spot in this season's Order of Merit rankings and into the top 10 of the World Rankings for the first time. Karen Watson (Saltash) reached the Last 32 of the Cup Competition on her SMPT debut after coming through Group 9 in second place after three wins, a draw and a loss.  In the knockouts she defeated Steve Killington (ENG) 12-6 in the last 64 and Gary Stewart (SCO) 10-6 in the last 32.  She was defeated 9-12 by Daniel Sands (ENG) in the Last 16. To reach the final Nigel came through the group stages second in Group 6 with four wins from five games.  In the last 64 Nigel faced Bill Burn (ENG) winning 15-4.  The last 32 saw a comfortable 15-2 win over Stephen Gale (IOM).  In the last 16 Nigel defeated Steve Puttock (ENG) 12-6 and in the Quarter Finals Mitchell Young (ENG) was defeated by the same scoreline.  In the Semi Finals Nigel won 14-5 against Tony Ealham (ENG).
